Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Swine coccidiosis is a disease of the digestive tract, diarrhea, wasting and stunted growth of piglets caused by coccidia of the genera Eimeria and Isospora. Adult pigs are mostly infested. So what are the specific drugs for pig coccidiosis? 1. Treatment of swine coccidiosis with specific drugs

Porcine coccidiosis is a digestive tract disease of piglets caused by Eimeria and Isosporium coccidiosis, with diarrhea, weight loss and stunted development. Most of the adult pigs are worm carriers. So what are the specific drugs for porcine coccidiosis?

I. specific drugs for porcine coccidiosis

Treatment since the discovery of the anti-coccidial effect of sulfonamides, various sulfonamides and other drugs have been used in the treatment of coccidiosis. Unfortunately, coccidiosis develops rapidly and is often treated too late to achieve a stable and good therapeutic effect.

Since coccidiosis in piglets often occurs at about 7 days old, it is possible to give drugs to the whole litter of piglets 2-3 days before the onset of the disease. As piglets still have to be fed, each piglet should be treated orally for 5 days, which is, of course, a hard work. Adding anti-coccidiosis drugs to piglets' drinking water or in combination with iron preparations may be effective in the treatment of porcine coccidiosis, however, there is no guarantee that every pig will receive an adequate dose. There is no approved anti-coccidial drug for pigs, nor is there an experimental dose, but some of the compounds reported in the literature may be effective.

Baiqiuqing (5% suspension) can be used to treat porcine coccidiosis at a dose of 20~30mg/kg, which can reduce diarrhea in piglets, reduce oocysts in feces, and reduce the incidence from 71% to 22%. It can kill both sexual and asexual worms. According to the author's trial, Baiqiuqing does have a good therapeutic effect on spore coccidiosis in piglets.

II. Preventive measures for porcine coccidiosis

The best way to prevent is to improve environmental hygiene: clean the delivery room, remove sow droppings before giving birth, and apply bleach (at least 50% concentration) or ammonia disinfection for more than several hours or fumigation. The pigsty should be empty during disinfection. In order to prevent the staff from inhaling bleach or ammonia steam, adequate ventilation should be carried out or the staff should wear anti-virus masks. Breeders should be restricted from entering the delivery room to prevent the entry of shoes or clothing into the oocysts; pets should also be strictly prevented from entering the delivery room, as their claws can carry the oocysts and cause the oocysts to spread in the delivery room. Make great efforts to kill rats to prevent rodents from mechanically transmitting oocysts. The pigsty should be disinfected again after each delivery to prevent newborn piglets from being infected with coccidiosis.

Porcine coccidiosis is more common in piglets, which can cause serious digestive tract diseases of piglets. If you want piglets to grow healthily, prevention and treatment measures must be taken.
