Taro is a common vegetable in daily life, which is generally grown in most areas, but due to climatic differences, some areas may be listed in summer and some in autumn, so what is the planting time and method of taro?

First, planting time

Taro should be planted in spring, usually between January and March, and can be harvested at the end of August, summer or October.

II. Planting methods

1. Land selection and preparation

Taro generally grows on the edge of ditches and ponds, but it doesn't like to grow by the water. Taro is generally suitable for rich and deep clayey soil with strong water retention. After selecting the land, turn deeply and apply 2000 kg of organic fertilizer and 60 kg of compound potash fertilizer per mu. Then dig a wide 50cm and deep 35cm trench according to the left and right row spacing of 100cm for later planting.

2. Seed selection and sowing

(1) seed selection: seeds without damage, disease, health and fullness can be selected.

(2) seed treatment: put the selected seeds in the sun for three or four days, and then put them into wet sand to accelerate germination, the sand should be covered with about 10cm, and the temperature should be controlled at about 25 degrees.

(3) sowing: the germinated seeds can be planted in the ditch according to the distance from the 40cm, about 45000 plants per mu.

3. Field management technology

(1) Fertilizer and water management: wait for taro to grow seedlings. We are about to start building a greenhouse. The main purpose is to prevent the seedlings from being blown down by the strong wind. After emergence, we need to strengthen management, generally use farm manure at least twice, and in summer we can use compound fertilizer according to the growth situation to accelerate the growth of rhizomes. During field inspection, the soil should be loosened to remove weeds in time, and lateral vines and heart leaves should not be retained, so as to ensure better ventilation and light between each plant, which is beneficial to improve yield and crop quality.

(2) pest control: Taro is relatively prone to diseases and insect pests during the growing period, especially aphids. We should control them in time. If we encounter rainy season, we should pay attention to drainage to avoid the occurrence of waterlogging.
