Dendrobium is a common potted plant, because of its elegant flower appearance and fragrant smell, it is loved by many flower friends, so how to make the soil of Dendrobium?

1. Basic introduction of Dendrobium

Dendrobium is a plant of Orchidaceae and Dendrobium, which has many aliases, such as Dendrobium orchid, immortal grass, hanging orchid, forest orchid, forbidden life, reviving grass, purple lingering plant and so on.

Dendrobium is suitable for growing in warm, humid, half-overcast and semi-sunny environment. It is better to grow in subtropical deep mountain forests with annual rainfall of more than 1000 mm, air humidity of more than 80% and average temperature of more than 8 ℃ in January. Dendrobium does not have strict requirements for soil fertilizer, and wild plants grow mostly on loose and thick bark or trunk, and some also grow in stone crevices.

Dendrobium is mainly distributed in the Dabie Mountains in southern Anhui (Huoshan), Taiwan, southern Hubei (Yichang), Hong Kong, Hainan (Baisha), western to northeastern Guangxi (Baise, Pingnan, Xing'an, Jinxiu, Jingxi), southern Sichuan (Changning, Emeishan, Leshan), southwest to north Guizhou (Chishui, Xishui, Luodian, Xingyi, Sandu) and so on.

Second, how to self-make Dendrobium culture soil

Because Dendrobium is shallow-rooted and requires high water drainage and air permeability in the planting environment, it cannot be planted directly with soil, and generally requires self-made culture soil:

1. Raw materials: sawdust, coconut skin, peat block, stone, bark, peanut shell, etc.

2. First lay the larger stones, peat blocks and wood blocks on the bottom.

3. Then use the mixture of pine bark, peanut shell and coconut skin as the substrate to lay on the top, usually with 3-4 layers

4. Then put the seedlings of Dendrobium in the center of the flowerpot and sprinkle some matrix to cover the large roots.

After planting, you can use orchid special slow-release fertilizer to sprinkle around the root of Dendrobium, then cover it with a small amount of bark, and water it again. You can apply fertilizer once a year.
