Lantern flower is a plant of the genus Rhododendron in the rhododendron family, which is suitable for growing in a cool and humid climate, so what is the breeding method of lantern flower?

1. Basic introduction of Lantern Flowers

Lantern flower is a perennial herbaceous flower of Saliuriaceae and inverted golden bell genera. Its main colors are red, purple and white, also known as bell flower, hanging bell begonia and so on.

Lantern flowers like cool and humid climate, and the suitable temperature for growth is 10 ℃ ~ 25 ℃. It should be sunny in winter and semi-overcast in summer.

China has a wide cultivation area, especially in the north or in the northwest and southwest plateau greenhouses, and has become an important flower plant.

II. Propagation methods of Lantern Flowers

1. Striping propagation

You need to select branches for peeling, then wrap them in film, cut them off and plant them after taking root.

Choose a strong lantern flower branch and peel off the bark from about 15cm to 30cm below the top. The width of the wound is about one centimeter. Cut a piece of film 10 cm 20 cm long and 5 cm 8 cm wide, put some wet garden soil on it, and wrap it up like a wound. The upper and lower ends of the film are tightly tied and bulged in the middle, and take root after about four to six weeks. After taking root, cut off the root system at the edge of the branch together to form a new plant.

2. Cuttage propagation

Select twigs or old branches for cutting, cut the appropriate length and then cut.

It is often used for softwood cutting in late spring and early autumn, or old wood cuttings with branches from last year in early spring.

The sturdy branches of the current year were selected as cuttings for softwood cuttings. After cutting off the branches, select the sturdy parts and cut them into segments 5-15 cm long, each with more than 3 leaf nodes.

When hardwood cuttings are carried out, after the temperature rises in early spring, last year's robust branches are selected as cuttings. Each cuttage usually retains 3-4 nodes, and the cutting method is the same as that of softwood cuttings.
