Ophiopogon japonicus is a kind of perennial herb of Liliaceae, and it is also a kind of traditional Chinese medicine with high medicinal effect. the main part of medicine is its plant root, which has the functions of invigorating body, moistening lung, relieving thirst and relieving cough. So how to plant Ophiopogon japonicus?

How to plant Ophiopogon japonicus

1. Land selection and preparation

Ophiopogon japonicus cultivation should choose soft, sufficient fertility, normal drainage and irrigation of sandy soil, the previous crop is not Ophiopogon japonicus, continuous cropping is prohibited. After harvesting the previous crops, we should do a good job in soil preparation, turn the soil about 22 cm deep, plough and rake repeatedly to ensure that the soil is soft and smooth enough. If the soil area is large and uneven, then it is necessary to build a good ridge to facilitate later management and drainage and irrigation. When preparing the soil, it is necessary to apply sufficient base fertilizer, which is mainly based on rotten farm manure, which is fully mixed with the soil to improve the soil fertility, and finally prepare for planting.

2. Planting and raising seedlings

The main planting method of Ophiopogon japonicus is ramet. At the beginning of April every year, strong plants with bright colors and no diseases and insect pests are selected. Cut off the tuber root and the surrounding whisker root to make it an independent plant. Then cut the tuber base to the place where the root appears white, and it can be planted in time. When planting, we should pay attention to the weather, not in rainy days, control the distance between rows and plants, and dig a planting ditch of about 5 centimeters. Then fertilizer is applied in the planting ditch and then planted. Cover the fine soil after planting and press it tightly to prevent the seedlings from lodging.

3. Field management

Ophiopogon likes to grow in a cool and humid environment, and the planting spacing is relatively large, so it can be properly intercropped. Generally in the spring and autumn and other seasons to plant corn and other crops with less nutritional requirements. However, because it is the growth and development period of its root tuber in winter and spring, intercropping should not be allowed at this time to prevent the lack of nutrition and lead to the decline of Ophiopogon yield. Then in the planting process, but also to do a good job of weeding, about two weeks later, began to weed, shallow hoe about 3 centimeters. June to September is the peak period for the growth of weeds, so weeds must be weeded once a month during this time to prevent weeds from grabbing the nutrients needed for the growth of Ophiopogon japonicus.

4. Water and fertilizer management

Ophiopogon has a great demand for nutrition, so it is necessary to topdressing at least 3 times during the whole growth period. But it also depends on the planting area, variety and the actual growth of Ophiopogon japonicus. However, most of the fertilizers are based on mature human and animal manure water, supplemented by calcium superphosphate and other compound fertilizers. Then in summer and other high-temperature seasons, the rate of water evaporation of Ophiopogon is accelerated, and it should be watered in time. If the soil is too dry, it should be watered frequently, especially in winter and spring, to meet the water needed for root growth. But water should not be too much, too much watering or rainy season should also pay attention to do a good job of drainage, to prevent causing diseases and insect pests, reduce production.
