Verbena, also known as retrogressive grass, wild Schizonepeta tenuifolia, is a common plant by the stream, hillside and roadside. The whole grass can be used medicinally. At present, it is specially planted in some areas. When will verbena be sown?

When will vervain be sown?

Verbena is usually sown from late April to early May. When sowing, it is best to choose full seeds for one year to improve the seed germination rate. Small buds can grow after 10-15 days of sowing, and beautiful flowers can bloom in 4-5 months.

How to sow vervain?

1. Soil selection

Verbena does not have high requirements for soil, as long as the light is sufficient, but it is best to be planted in deep, loose and fertile sandy loam, and it is not suitable to be planted in low-lying areas. After selecting the soil, turn it deeply and apply enough base fertilizer.

2. Seed selection

The life span of verbena seeds is 3 years, and the germination rate is about 60%, so when selecting seeds, try to choose full seeds for one year to improve seed germination rate.

3. Sowing seeds

Spread the seeds evenly into the soil surface according to the spacing of 25cm, then cover it with a layer of 1-1.5cm thick soil, press gently with your hands, and keep the temperature between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. The environment should not be too dry. You can sprout in 10 to 15 days.

4. Transplanting

When the small buds grow about 5cm high, dig out the soil with roots and transplant it to a place with a larger area.

5. Management techniques after transplanting.

(1) weeding frequently: weeding should be done frequently after transplanting to prevent weeds from absorbing plant nutrients.

(2) watering requirements: the soil should be watered immediately when the soil is slightly dry, but not too much, so as to avoid stagnant water and rot the roots.

(3) loosening soil: each time watering, loosen the soil properly to promote the growth of seedlings.

(4) Light requirements: keep the environment dry and plenty of sunlight after transplanting, so that you can see its flowers in full bloom after 4-5 months.
