Cucumber is one of the main vegetables and fruits in summer in our country. It has high nutritional value and many people like to eat it. Experienced farmers will keep the cucumber seeds of that year for planting next spring. So, do you know how to preserve the old cucumber seed? The following editor brings you three common preservation methods.

1. Tank storage

Add 10-12 cm deep water to the washed jar, place a wooden frame 3-4 cm above the water surface, spread wood on the frame, and then lay a layer of clean gunny sacks on the board, then put the selected cucumber stalk outward and place it in a circle along the edge of the cylinder, all the way to 9-10 cm away from the cylinder mouth, so that a hole is formed in the center of the cylinder to facilitate up and down ventilation. The mouth of the cylinder is sealed with Kraft paper and fastened with a rope, and finally the cylinder is placed in a cool place.

2. Cellar storage

Pack the selected cucumbers in cartons of about 15 kilograms each, then pile the boxes in a permanent vegetable cellar or soil cellar, or spread a layer of straw at the bottom of the cellar and put the cucumber layer by layer, separated by two straws between each layer. After the cucumbers are stacked, the heap height should not exceed 60-70 cm. Seal with plastic film. After entering the cellar, check every 5-7 days to pick out rotten melons and discolored melons so as not to infect good melons. This method is suitable for storing cucumbers in large quantities.

3. Chinese cabbage embedded and stored.

Pick the heart leaves of Chinese cabbage, bury the moderately mature cucumbers in the heart leaves of Chinese cabbage, cover them with Chinese cabbage leaves, and store them in the same cellar with Chinese cabbage. This storage method can well maintain the moisture, color and quality of cucumbers, so it is a good method for family storage of cucumbers, but it is not suitable for large quantities of cucumbers.

If there are not many kinds of old cucumbers to be preserved, we can use the jar storage method and the Chinese cabbage embedding method.
