Barley is a kind of Gramineae plant, which is planted in many parts of our country, so how to grow barley? What are the variants?

How to grow barley

First of all, we should select barley varieties suitable for local planting, then choose flat, fertile and deep land for planting, sow seeds at the right time according to the local climate, and pay attention to planting density. After planting, do a good job of fertilization, watering, weeding and other management.

1. Seed selection

Select barley varieties suitable for special or dual use of wheat straw, such as Minmai 2, Fudamai 1, Fudamai 2, etc., select seeds before sowing, select full, good color seeds, remove diseased grains, shrunken grains and rotten seeds, and choose sunny days to sow for 1-2 days.

2. Select the place

The soil selection is flat, the tillage layer is deep and fertile, the active soil layer is above 25cm, and the land structure is good, and there are no tillage obstacles.

3. Sowing seeds

According to the local conditions, take Fujian Province as an example, the soil temperature of 10-20 ℃ is suitable for sowing.

4. Planting density

The sowing rate is generally 135~180kg/hm2, and the basic seedling should be controlled at about 2.25 million / hm2.

5. Other management

Fertilization: in the fields with medium fertility, it is suggested that the amount of fertilizer should be pure N285kg/hm2, P2O5120kg/hm2 and K2O285kg/hm2, and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied to promote the early growth and rapid development of wheat seedlings and build a good wheat seedling population.

Watering: the production of wheat seedlings requires a large amount of water, so it is necessary to keep the field moist as far as possible, especially after cutting seedlings, to keep the soil moist. If the soil is relatively dry at this time, it must be irrigated to meet the water needs of wheat seedlings to grow again.

Weeding: in order to ensure the safety of wheat straw, herbicides are generally not recommended. Under normal environmental conditions, the growth potential of wheat straw is stronger than that of weeds, and individual fast-growing weeds can be pulled out manually.

2. Varieties of barley

1. Highland barley

Annual three-culm erect, about 100 cm high, 4-6 mm in diameter, with 4-5 nodes, often cultivated in northwest and southwest provinces of China. Suitable for the cool climate of the plateau.

2. Tibetan highland barley

One year old. Culms erect, smooth, ca. 100 cm tall. Leaf sheath smooth, shorter than internodes, with two lanceolate auricles on both sides; ligule membranous, 1-2 mm long; leaf blade 18-25 cm long and 1-1.8 cm wide. It is often cultivated in Qinghai, Xizang, Sichuan, Gansu and other provinces, as well as in North China.
