Chen Qin, a special professor of Northwestern University of Agriculture and Forestry, and his team cultivated a new color code book variety "Purple Rose 2", "Red Rose 3" and "Black Rose 4". It has obtained the certificate of new plant variety right of the Ministry of Agriculture and has passed the registration of new non-major crop varieties. It has achieved a zero breakthrough in the cultivation of new potato varieties in the history of the school.

Potato production in China is facing the dilemma of lack of special processing varieties. since 2010, Professor Chen Jin has led the potato genetics, breeding and functional development team, aiming at the international frontier, centering on the major needs of the development of China's potato staple industry, and taking the original innovation of potato germplasm resources as the core to carry out omni-directional potato genetic breeding and selection and cultivation of new varieties for staple food processing.

After years of field screening and identification, the team selected a series of new varieties of colored potato suitable for staple food processing and high nutrition, which were cultivated by cross breeding. the yield and quality are better than the existing colored potato varieties.

The rose series of colored potatoes that have obtained the privilege of new varieties and completed the registration of new varieties have relatively high nutritional value, yield and added value, with a yield of 2000 kg per mu. Under good cultivation and management conditions, the yield per mu can reach more than 4000 kg, and the average yield is 30% higher than that of ordinary varieties. The rate of commercial potato can reach more than 85%. In terms of quality, it contains not only various carbohydrates, vitamin C, starch and other nutrients of common potatoes, but also anthocyanins and polyphenols with high antioxidant activity. Its anthocyanin content is up to or close to the expensive blueberry level, and its antioxidant substance contains 1000-1700 mg per 100 grams, which is 5-10 times that of the general variety.

This new variety of colored potato is not only nutritious, but also colorful, with red, purple, black and other different colors. The processed products are of good quality, high added value, and have a good market and development potential. After being processed into whole powder, it can be preserved for a long time. Processed into colored potato chips not only has a unique flavor, but also can retain the original natural color, more healthy and delicious.

The planting conditions of colored potatoes are no different from those of ordinary potatoes, but the market price is higher than that of ordinary potatoes. The new varieties of rose series have been certified, which can effectively promote the development of potato industry in China and form a characteristic industrial chain.
