Reporter Chen Liping recently learned from the Agriculture and Rural Committee of the National people's Congress that the Ministry of Agriculture has formed a draft revision of the Fisheries Law, and the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council suggested that the Ministry of Agriculture should combine the opinions and suggestions put forward by deputies' motions. we will step up efforts to study the relevant issues concerning the revision of the law.

At the third session of the 12th National people's Congress held in March this year, 30 deputies, including Xue Shaoxian, put forward a motion on amending and perfecting the Fisheries Law. The motion proposes that the relevant provisions of the Fisheries Law cannot reflect the development concept of ecological priority, and that there is a lack of relevant norms on fishermen's rights, proliferation and release, construction of artificial reefs, basic fishery management system, and fishery safety production, and that some provisions are not operable and inconsistent with other laws.

The Ministry of Agriculture believes that with the social and economic development, some provisions of the Fisheries Law do not adapt and coordinate with the current fishery production, which is not conducive to the ecological protection of water areas and the sustainable development of fisheries, and there is an urgent need to amend the Fisheries Law. The revision of the Fisheries Law has been included in the legislative work plan of the State Council in 2015.
