It is understood that the money tortoise has been in short supply. With the continuous development and growth of the money tortoise in recent years, but because its breeding is relatively complex, the difficulty coefficient is relatively large, and the risk is relatively much greater, so many investors do not dare to breed it on a large scale.

Construction of breeding pond of money tortoise

The construction of breeding ponds is basically the same as turtle ponds. Breeding ponds must be built outdoors, and there are no really successful examples of breeding money turtles in indoor ponds. At ordinary times, the breeding pond can also be used as an adult turtle pond, and the adult turtle will not be removed until the breeding period, which can improve the efficiency of the pool. During spawning, the sand around the pond should be kept moist without stagnant water; in case of drought, appropriate water should be drenched to keep the sand moist. The breeding pond should be as quiet as possible. The stocking density of parent turtles is much lower than that of adult turtles.

Construction method of baby turtle pond

It is generally raised in cement ponds, and this method is suitable for general professional households and small-scale breeding farms. According to the living characteristics of money turtles, the breeding pool should be built in the sunny and sheltered place, and the size of the pool can be determined according to needs, and a wall should be built about 2 meters away from the pool to prevent the money turtles from escaping; a small island can also be built in the middle of the pool for money turtles to move. The island and the open space outside the pool should have a certain slope to facilitate the money turtles to climb onto the island or the open space outside the pool to rest, feed and lay eggs; the bottom of the pool should be provided with a water outlet for water exchange; the bottom of the pool and the open space outside the pool should be covered with sand about 30cm thick, and some plants should be planted for shading to cool down and prevent heat in summer.

Due to the high price of money turtles, some farmers can achieve better results by building indoor ponds to raise young turtles for the sake of safety and ease of management. The indoor baby turtle pond is also made of cement, which is usually rectangular and has a certain slope in the length of 2 to 3. The bottom and walls of the pool are covered with beige or lake blue glazed tiles for easy cleaning and cleanliness. According to experience, a 1.5 m x 0.6 m x 0.6 m indoor cement pool can hold about 30 small money turtles.

Construction of adult turtle pond

Build ponds according to the characteristics of money turtles, such as warm, warm, gentle, timid, able to make holes, easy to escape, and so on. Choose places with soft sediment, leeward to the sun, sufficient water, not easy to be polluted, secluded and shaded, and build ponds with cement. The size of the ponds can be determined according to the size of the site and the number of turtles raised. A 50cm high wall with a depth of 70-80cm must be built around the pond 1-2 meters away from the pool. The wall must be smooth, and barbed wire should be set up at the inlet and outlet of the pool to prevent the turtle from escaping. Build a small island of 6-7 square meters in the middle of the pool for turtles' activities.

The open space between the fence and the breeding pond and the place where the island extends to the pool must have a certain slope (above 1:2) to facilitate the landing of turtles and activities on the island. The water storage depth of the breeding pond is generally about 1.5m. The bottom of the pond should be covered with 20-40cm thick sand, and the open space between the wall and the pool should also be covered with slightly moist sand about 60cm thick. In addition, some flowers, grasses and shrubs can be properly planted on the open land around the pool and on the island to provide shade and habitat for turtles. Some electric lights can also be installed to facilitate the staff to observe the activities of turtles at night, and some farmers raise adult turtles indoors. The construction of indoor adult turtle pond is roughly the same as that of indoor baby turtle pond, but the area is much larger.

How to raise money turtles

I. in terms of nutrition

Nutritional condition is one of the factors that have the greatest influence on money turtles. In artificial breeding, small fish, shrimp, shellfish, snail meat, earthworms, boiled and chopped animal offal and other animal feed can be given priority to, supplemented by plant feed such as rice and vegetables. Although the money tortoise has a wide diet, a variety of vitamins, trace elements and calcium should be properly added to the feed to ensure that the nutrients of the feed are comprehensive and avoid stunted growth or anorexia. And in the process of feeding, we should adhere to the quality, quantity, timing and fixed point, and the contaminated bait would rather be abandoned than fed, otherwise it will lose the big because of the small. In addition, the feeding time varies from season to season, such as feeding at 10: 11 a.m. in summer and 3: 4 p.m. in autumn.

2. Breeding environment

In the pond where money turtles are raised, some shelters can be placed irregularly to simulate the natural environment in the wild, so that money turtles can grow in a quiet and comfortable state. Money turtles like to live in water, so the quality of water directly affects the health of turtles. Generally, non-polluting well water, river water and lake water can be used. The pH value of water should be tested first when tap water is used. It is best to use water that has been exposed to chlorine. The number of times of water change and the amount of water each time in the breeding process should depend on the water quality, water color and seasonal changes.

III. Disease prevention and treatment

In the process of raising money turtles, due to the deterioration of pond water, high stocking density, mixed culture of large and small turtles, improper bait, freezing injury and summer injury and other reasons, the turtles often get sick or die. Money turtles are prone to diseases such as red neck disease, water mold disease, turtle skin rot and mucormycosis. Therefore, in order to prevent money turtles from appearing diseases in the process of breeding, prevention work must be done. Such as: every 2 weeks with l0mg/L bleach solution or 2% salt water whole pool soak, shower turtle body 5 minutes-10 minutes, in order to prevent and cure common bacterial diseases, money turtles in outdoor dry sand pool (pay attention to escape prevention) sun back once a week, with 9 am-10:00 sun adequate sun back better, summer and autumn sun back 20 minutes-30 minutes, winter and spring sun back 30 minutes-60 minutes. Money turtles not only play a role in sterilization by tanning their backs, but also create conditions for the conversion of vitamin D sources on the surface of the tortoise body into vitamin D to enhance the disease resistance of the tortoise body.

Fourth, the choice of turtles

The selection of healthy turtles is the key to the successful breeding of money turtles, and choices can be made in terms of age, physique and female-to-male ratio. generally speaking, when selecting turtles, it is not only based on the individual weight of the tortoise, but mainly on the age of the tortoise. the individual weight of the tortoise is only used as an auxiliary condition. In addition, healthy turtles are well-proportioned in shape, have fat bodies, have eyes, pull their limbs, feel very powerful, and have no broken tail. In addition, according to the experience of most breeders, 2:1 is the best ratio of female to male turtles. If there are too many male turtles, the mating season is easy to cause fights between male turtles, and in serious cases, both sides bite. If there are fewer male turtles, the fertilization rate will be affected.

From the above analysis, we can see that the breeding of golden turtles is a relatively complex breeding project. For young turtles, adult turtles and breeding turtles, the growth environment they need is different in different periods, so they should be raised separately. They can't be mixed together like other breeds.
