A few days ago, the China Veterinary Association, together with more than 30 leading breeding and slaughtering enterprises in the domestic animal husbandry industry, officially launched the formulation of welfare standards for livestock and poultry breeding and slaughtering in China at the China Veterinary Conference, which will become the first farm animal welfare industry standard in the field of animal husbandry and veterinary medicine in China, covering live pigs, broilers, laying hens, mutton sheep, beef cattle and dairy cows.

According to reports, the welfare standards for livestock and poultry breeding and slaughtering in China are intended to set technical parameters from the aspects of livestock and poultry feeding and management, livestock house environment, epidemic disease prevention and control, behavior expression, personnel operation requirements, pre-slaughter disposal, stun, and assassination and bloodletting, in order to determine the basic welfare requirements of breeding and slaughtering links. The establishment of welfare standards for livestock and poultry breeding and slaughtering will help to promote animal welfare breeding and humane slaughtering, improve the level of animal health and epidemic prevention, and enhance the value of animal products, so as to promote animal-derived food safety.
