The spawning and hatching season of stone frog is from April to September, and the spawning peak is from May to June. In order to improve the spawning rate and hatching rate, we must start from the hibernating recovery of breeding frogs, and do a good job in the selection, breeding, spawning and hatching of breeding frogs.

The selection of breeding frogs is the basis of artificial reproduction. After hibernation and before spring reproduction, adult frogs are comprehensively examined and classified. Adult frogs with large size, strong body, smooth skin, good development, no disability, no damage and sexual maturity are selected for breeding. General two-year-old frogs, female frogs weigh more than 200 grams, male frogs more than 250 grams can be used for breeding. The number of eggs laid for the first time was less, and the number of eggs laid twice was higher and the quality was better. Old frogs with large individuals lay more eggs, but the quality is not good and the fertilization rate is not high, so they should not be selected as breeding frogs. Male frogs require strong, good jumpers and skinless legs, while female frogs require short, thick legs, abdominal drum and shiny skin. The 2-year-old and 3-year-old frogs have strong fecundity.

The breeding temperature, water temperature, water quality, light, bait and environmental conditions have a great influence on the health and reproduction of frogs, and the living environment directly affects the breeding, spawning rate, fertilization rate, hatching rate and survival rate of tadpoles. According to the habits of stone frogs, the breeding pond should be built in a quiet and weak light place, with a height of 0.8m and an area of 4~10m2. The bottom of the pond is covered with pebbles and stone holes, which is conducive to the habitat and spawning of frogs. The water and land area of the pond is 3 ∶ 1, which requires that the water capacity of the pond is relatively stable, the water depth is about 15cm, the water quality is fresh, the pH value is 6-8, and there are no harmful parasites. Generally, the water is changed once a day in the peak season, and in the off-season, every 2-3 days. 15 frogs per square meter were planted and reared in groups according to the ratio of 1 ∶ of male and female. The selected breeding frogs must be prepared for group breeding before hibernation or spring breeding.

Frogs that are to be selected for breeding should be strengthened before hibernation to make them fat and strong, so as to ensure safe overwintering. Breeding frogs requires not only suitable environmental conditions, but also an adequate supply of feed. The frogs were mainly fed by earthworms, yellow powder insects, moths, fly maggots and other insects, and the food intake was the highest from May to September, decreased during estrus and increased at the later stage of spawning. The feed supply should be a little surplus after eating, and the daily feeding amount should be balanced. Do not suddenly more or less, according to the specific circumstances, as appropriate, feeding time is generally in the evening (according to the sun is about to set), once a day, fixed-point feeding.
