Due to the reduction or disappearance of reproductive function, the number of eggs is reduced or even stopped due to the cessation of production of pigeons over the age of 7 years caused by excessive age. In production, aged pigeons with an annual output of less than 5 pairs should be eliminated.

The shutdown caused by molting is seasonal. The molting of meat pigeons is usually from September to November. The molting time of high-yield pigeons is short and that of low-yield pigeons is long. In production, attention should be paid to the nutrition of meat pigeons during the moulting period, and the amount of hemp kernel and rapeseed should be increased in the feed to shorten the moulting period. Disease causes suspension of production of meat pigeons, such as Newcastle disease, pigeon pox, candidiasis, chronic respiratory diseases and other infectious diseases, as well as reproductive tract inflammation and chronic enteritis. Therefore, vaccination and drug prevention should be done well in production, as well as cleaning and disinfection. If the feeding restriction is not done well in the period of young pigeons, it is easy to cause young pigeons to be overfat. Over-fat pigeons should reduce the amount of feed or feed their pigeons within a period of time; for the suspension of production caused by malnutrition, the feed formula should be adjusted in time to ensure the supply of protein, energy and vitamins, and increase the frequency of feeding. Excessive production of pigeons caused suspension of production and breeding of high-yield meat pigeons and meat breeding pigeons that often hatched 3 eggs and fed 3 pigeons were easy to cause excessive fatigue, and the suspension of production mainly occurred in the second year of production. In order to prevent pigeon fatigue, every winter, combined with molting, it is best to have a 1-2-month rest period, during which all breeding pigeons are caged and raised in large groups. Due to the suspension of production caused by vaccination and improper medication, the meat pigeons should be vaccinated before they are paired in the cage, and the vaccination during the production period will lead to the suspension of production. In addition, some drugs such as chloramphenicol and sulfonamides will cause suspension of production, and the use of pigeons should be prohibited.
