Chinese donkey originated from Asian wild donkey, distributed in western China and Asia, India, Arabia and other inland Asia, in which Xizang wild donkey and Mongolian wild donkey were captured and domesticated from childhood to form domestic donkeys. At the beginning of the introduction, it was mainly concentrated in Guanzhong area, and then gradually spread to the north and east. As one of the draft animals, donkeys once spread all over the agricultural areas of the Central Plains and semi-agricultural and semi-pastoral areas.

When matching the diet of male donkeys, the proportion of forage grass should be reduced, the proportion of concentrate should be increased, and the energy feed should be controlled so that the concentrate accounts for 1% of the total diet. When the breeding task is large, it is also necessary to add animal and mineral feeds such as eggs, milk, fish meal, stone meal, calcium dihydrogen phosphate and so on. In order to meet the requirements of semen quality during mating, feeding should be strengthened 1-1.5 months before the beginning of mating to improve feed quality.

In general, large male donkeys are fed 5 kilograms of grain grass or high-quality hay and 1.5 kilograms of concentrate in the non-mating period, while medium-sized donkeys are fed 3 kilograms of hay and 1.5 kilograms of concentrate. One month before entering the breeding period, we began to reduce grass and feed to meet the dietary standards during the breeding period: 3.5-4 kg of large donkey grass and 2.3-3.5 kg of concentrate, of which bean cakes or beans were not less than 25% and 30%. When there is a lack of high-quality green hay in early spring, 1 kg of carrots or 0.5 kg of barley malt should be supplied every day.

In order to strengthen the physique, it is necessary to deal with the mutually restricted and balanced relationship among nutrition, exercise and breeding of male donkeys. The heavy task of breeding can reduce exercise and increase protein feed; if the task of breeding is light, it can increase exercise or reduce some concentrate properly to prevent male donkeys from being overfed. The general use of light exercise or riding can also be on the turntable sports rack to drive exercise, the time is 1.5 to 2 hours. Exercise can improve sperm motility, but one hour before and after mating (semen collection), strenuous exercise should be avoided and walk for 20 minutes after mating. In addition to the feeding time, the breeding male donkey can exercise in the playground, not tied up.

Reasonable breeding, general breeding (semen collection) once a day, rest one day a week, occasionally twice a day, with an interval of more than 8 hours. The breeding frequency of young male donkeys is less than that of strong-aged male donkeys. In short, the number of mating depends on the results of semen quality tests. Excessive breeding will reduce semen quality, affect fecundity, cause infertility, and shorten the useful life of male donkeys.
