Courtyard ecological turtle culture can regulate water quality, enrich food sources, greatly reduce feeding costs, no disease occurs, and can meet the requirements of turtle growth and development.

1. Design and construction of aquaculture pond

The design and construction of aquaculture ponds are related to the success or failure of ecological farming. The size of the pond is determined by the number of turtles raised, with a minimum of about 2 square meters. The shape of the pool is unlimited, and there are two kinds of pool depth: 1.5 meters deep, 20 centimeters deep, 1 meter deep, and 1 meter deep, 70 centimeters deep. Feeding ponds and spawning grounds should generally account for 1/3 or 1/2 of the whole pond, whichever is able to accommodate all turtles to feed. At 30 centimeters above the water surface, lay a cement board and flatten the gap with cement to prevent leakage. In the cement board edge and 1/2 each build a 7 cm wide, 30 cm high water retaining wall, respectively, for feeding ponds and spawning grounds, spawning grounds can also be slightly larger. A sloping ladder with a width of about 10 cm and a length of more than 20 cm is built at the middle end of the water retaining wall, and the water is 3 cm to 5 cm respectively, so that the tortoise can climb from the culture pond into the feeding pond to feed. A water bridge with a width of about 20 cm is built at the middle end of the feeding pond and the spawning ground, which enters the spawning ground by 4 cm to 7 cm respectively. When the turtle enters and leaves the spawning ground through this bridge, the sand on the turtle can be washed away to avoid bringing it into the breeding pond. There is a water outlet near the ground of the culture pond and the feeding pond and the spawning ground, which can be plugged when it is not drained, and the discharge outlet of the spawning ground is slightly higher. Set an overflow on the retaining wall. And block it with a nylon net in case the pool is full of rain and the tortoise escapes. The bottom of the spawning ground is covered with pebbles to store water and leak, and the top is covered with fine sand. At the bottom of the feeding pool and spawning ground is a dark chamber pool where turtles can safely spend the winter and summer. Two or three rows of tiles are pasted on both sides of the upper part of the pool to prevent rats, snakes and turtles from climbing out.

2. Daily management

(1) the aquatic plants that tortoise fish like to eat should be put into the culture pond and match with each other. If you put water floating lotus or water hyacinth, you must match it with duckweed or red duckweed. The former can only be partially released, while the latter can be put into the whole pool and blocked with wood chips.

(2) the fish put into the culture pond are mainly Loach, small fish and shrimp, and field snails and mussels are easy to pollute the water quality, so they should be put in small quantities, and the amount of fish and shrimp should be determined by the number of turtles, generally about 1 kg per square meter, along with fishing, in order to improve the survival rate of fish and shrimp.

(3) regular and appropriate amount of supplementary feeding.

(4) pick up the rotten stems and leaves floating on the water at any time, and replace the fresh aquatic plants in time.

(5) some fresh fish and shrimp should be added in the culture pond in order to facilitate reproduction and provide meat feed for turtles continuously.

(6) the aquaculture ponds and feeding ponds should be washed and disinfected when changing new water, and a drying shed can be built at a height of more than 1 meter above the aquaculture ponds to avoid direct exposure to the hot sun.

3. The effect of ecological turtle culture in courtyard.

The main results are as follows: (1) Ecological turtle culture is carried out in the courtyard aquaculture pond, there is a layer of vegetation protection on the water surface, the water quality can be purified and the pollution slows down. In the high temperature season, turtle breeding in the courtyard needs fresh water for 3 to 5 days, and the use of ecological culture can be extended to about 15 days for fresh water, and if managed properly, the time can be extended.

(2) Ecological culture is beneficial to the survival and reproduction of fresh food, and the plants on the surface of the water are the food of tortoise fish, so the source of natural food in the water is abundant, and the feeding cost can be reduced by more than 1/3 to 1/2.

(3) in the water body under the same natural conditions, the tortoise can feed freely, and the growth rate is obviously faster, which is more than 2-3 times higher than that of the general courtyard turtle.
