Bullfrogs are temperature-changing animals that hibernate when the water temperature drops to 6-12 degrees. Hibernation management should pay attention to the following matters.

1. Prevent frost damage

Bullfrogs hibernate in two ways: underwater and underground. Keep the frog pond 2 cm water layer during overwintering, and build a cold shelter with branches or straw on the water surface. Or make a semicircular scaffolding with bamboo pieces above the pool, covered with straw curtains or thin films. When the temperature is above 6 degrees, the film should be opened partly to facilitate ventilation and adjust the temperature in the shed. At the same time, the freshness of pool water and the stability of water level should be checked regularly to prevent sudden change of weather, drop of pool water temperature and frostbite.

2. Keeping fat

Before overwintering, bullfrogs should be fed enough bait to make them full and strong, accumulate enough nutrients in the body and maintain metabolic consumption during hibernation. If possible, some maggots and Loach can be fed to ensure that the bullfrog has enough to eat, so as to accumulate nutrients needed for hibernation, reduce death and ensure the benefit of breeding. At the same time, at noon when the water temperature is more than 10 ℃, feed some refined fodder, such as small fish and shrimp, earthworms and so on.

3. Shelter from the wind

When bullfrogs spend the winter in caves, they should choose to dig caves in the leeward and sunny places. The size of the cave depends on the size of the culture, generally 15 centimeters in diameter, more than 1 meter deep, variable in length. The cave should be moist and avoid flooding, and wind barriers should be set up.

4. Guard against enemy damage

The main enemies of bullfrogs are water centipedes, rodents, ants, etc., which should be eliminated or killed in time. Rats, in particular, should be completely eliminated.

5. Pollution prevention

The pH value of the overwintering pond is required to be 5: 9, which will lead to the death of bullfrog if it is too high or too low. therefore, attention should be paid to prevent water pollution. Oxygen consumption affecting water quality, pollution of pesticides, chemical fertilizers and domestic water, deterioration of leftover bait, etc., should be prevented.
