Problems needing attention in artificial insemination of cultured blue peacocks

Last Updated: 2024/09/06, ① eliminates inferior male blue peacocks: during the first and second semen collection training, male blue peacocks will appear some poor quality male blue peacocks with no obvious reproductive process, low sperm volume, low sperm density and poor sperm motility.

① Elimination of inferior male blue peacocks: male blue peacocks in the first and second sperm collection training, there will be some poor male blue peacocks with no obvious reproductive processes, less ejaculation, low sperm density and poor sperm motility, which should be marked. If this is still the case in the future, they should be eliminated.

② Pay attention to semen quality: When collecting semen, only pure white and concentrated semen should be taken, and yellow, brown or too thin semen should not be taken. In order to reduce the contamination of urine, feces and blood to semen, semen collection should be carried out after rare birds defecate, semen collection action should be light, avoid excessive force.

③ Semen disposal should be appropriate: do not dilute semen with ordinary water, dilute semen with specially prepared diluent. Alcohol and disinfectants must not be attached to all instruments that come into contact with semen. Blue peacock sperm can maintain good fertilization ability in the range of 10-40C, especially at about 35C. In cold season, attention should be paid to semen insulation. The temperature of semen should reach 35℃(35- 40C diluent can be used when diluting semen). All equipment in contact with semen should be washed with 35-40℃ diluent or normal saline before semen collection and infusion to preheat it.

④ Correct grasp of sperm infusion technology: sperm infusion should be timely. Sperm in half an hour after the sperm transfusion, or sperm motility will soon be lost, seriously affecting the fertilization rate. Infuse quantity should be appropriate. Dilute the collected qualified semen 10 times and inject 0.1-0.2 ml into each female blue peacock.

5. Sperm infusion time: generally selected in the afternoon, after most female blue peacocks are finished, it is best in the evening. Insemination is usually performed twice a week (2 consecutive days).

Depth of insemination: generally 1 - 2 cm in the mouth of the fallopian tube.

Adhere to the hygiene system: collection cups, syringes and sperm infusion catheters and other equipment must be strictly disinfected before use. If these instruments are disinfected with alcohol or disinfectants, wash them, make sure they are free of these disinfectants, dry them for later use, or rinse them with semen thinner if they are used urgently. Sperm infusion catheter every time a female blue peacock infusion, it should be replaced, used sperm infusion catheter together for disinfection treatment before use.
