In the past 10 years, with the rise in the trading price of animal traditional Chinese medicine in the medicine market, the market prices of toad venom and dried toad are also rising day by day, mainly due to the sharp decline in the survival of wild toads due to the changing ecological environment. In addition, people in many parts of the country have been used to eating toad meat for a long time, and they regard toad meat as frog meat, and toad food in restaurants is becoming more and more popular. Therefore, the products of toads are on the verge of drying up, which makes it difficult to catch toads used in authentic traditional Chinese medicines in some areas.

Therefore, artificial breeding of toads has sprung up in some places, and the technology has become more mature. The most important thing to raise toads is to survive the winter well. Toads are amphibians and reptiles with variable temperatures and go into hibernation before winter comes every year. In nature, most toads climb underwater to survive the winter, such as rivers, lakes, ponds and puddles, and a few get into the soil for the winter. Most of the toads raised by people overwinter in pools, which is a method of overwintering with large chemical industry and high chemical cost, and it is not easy to do in areas where water is scarce and in mountainous areas. The author has 15 years of experience in breeding toads. After years of experiments, it is found that toads can survive the winter on dry land. As long as the conditions are met, they can survive the winter very safely, and even survive 100%. The method is also simple and easy to do, the specific methods are:

Can be in front of the house behind closed miscellaneous land, barren beaches, hillsides and other areas, the best to choose the sunny place, the land ploughing, the depth of about 20 centimeters, deeper in the north. Several drainage ditches are opened horizontally and vertically in the reclaimed land.

In order to prevent toads from escaping after putting in and waking up from hibernation in spring, the overwintering site should be surrounded by a thicker plastic film. The reclaimed land can be surrounded by a plastic film with a width of 80 centimeters, and the length depends on the perimeter of the ground. The bottom of the plastic film is buried in the soil about 20 centimeters, leaving about 60 centimeters on the ground, and then the above-ground part of the plastic film is supported with bamboo sticks to form an anti-escape wall. Because the plastic film is smooth, toads can't jump high and can't climb out. The plastic film joint is firmly glued with adhesive tape, which can be used for 3 ~ 5 years.

On the enclosed land, about 10 toads are released per square meter, allowing them to drill into the loose soil to survive the winter. Within 2-3 days after putting in, toads drill into the soil one after another, and then cover them with straw, withered straw or stalk straw, so as to prevent the toads from being sunburned or dried to death after long-term sun or drought, and to prevent soil consolidation caused by heavy rain. Keep the soil slightly moist is very safe, generally encounter drought for a month no problem, such as too dry can sprinkle some water. In case of long-term rainy weather, it is necessary to prevent stagnant water, so as to avoid suffocating toads in the soil.

This method of overwintering is simple and easy, and it can be implemented everywhere according to local conditions, and there is generally no enemy attack in winter.
