Up to now, the blue peacock is lack of breed standard and production index, but it can be selected according to appearance, body weight, growth and development, egg production, hatching rate and so on. In production practice, individuals with healthy, brightly colored feathers, strong feet and unbent toes are generally selected and numbered to prevent inbreeding. For this reason, blue peacocks with different pedigrees should be introduced from different units to obtain pedigree data. Blue peacock and green peacock can be crossed, and their hybrid offspring are fully fertile.

Breeding period

The breeding period of blue peacock has strong seasonality, usually from June to August. However, under the condition of artificial feeding, the breeding period can often be advanced and prolonged, thus prolonging the laying season.

Estrus and courtship

Adult blue peacocks, especially male peacocks, often chase female peacocks, and the gorgeous rudder feathers are held high and spread out like a fan, commonly known as "opening the screen", and constantly wobble and sound, and can open the screen many times, each time for as long as 5 to 7 minutes, and turn left and right, and the eye-shaped spots on the feathers reflect brilliance, causing the female peacock to approach the male peacock frequently. In the case of group breeding, fierce fights are often caused in order to fight for a mate, and sometimes the estrus female peacock is forced to be helpless and injured by the male peacock.

Mating

The mating ratio of male to female is 1, 3, 1 and 5, and the female peacock begins to lay eggs 15 days after mating, so it is necessary to dig a bunker in the corner and put the sand for laying eggs. There should be someone on duty to pick up eggs to avoid egg-eating addiction or induce sex.

Incubation

It can be divided into two categories: natural hatching and artificial hatching.

Natural hatching

It is best to use black-bone chickens or native recommended chickens to hatch, and use awakening medicine to awaken female peacocks. Generally speaking, small holding chickens can only hatch 4 ~ 6 peacock eggs at a time. During the incubation period, the chicken will be released or carried out twice every morning and afternoon, defecated, drinking water and grain will be supplied at the same time, and then carried back to continue hatching about 15 minutes later. The incubation period of peacocks is from 26 days to 28 days, and the eggs are tested on the 7th day, 14th day and 21st day respectively.

Artificial incubation

The electric incubator for hatching birds can hatch as long as the hatching plate is remade according to the size of peacock eggs. Disinfect eggs and hatching equipment according to routine. The hatching process is basically the same.

The main results are as follows: (1) the temperature in the plane incubator is 38 ℃ ~ 38.5 ℃, and the temperature in the three-dimensional incubator is 37.5 ℃ ~ 38 ℃. The temperature in the incubator was maintained at 24 ℃ ~ 27 ℃. The temperature during the hatching period decreased by 0.5 ℃, and the adoption of constant temperature hatching (staged human hatching) or variable temperature hatching (one hatching) depends on human production.

(2) the relative humidity should be maintained at 60%-65%. It is best to use 70% in the hatching period and 65%-70% in the hatchery.

(3) it is best to turn eggs every half an hour to 1 hour, 1 hour to 2 hours in the second week, and then every 3 hours. Stop turning eggs 3 days before hatching.

(4) the cold eggs are generally not over-warm but not cold. In the middle and later stages, the eggs can be cooled for 15 to 20 minutes every day, until they are cooled to 30 ℃.

As the peacock egg shell is thick, the temperature and humidity in the first few days can not be on the low side, but the humidity can be higher in the later stage.
