In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the centipede has entered the hibernation period in November every year, when the centipede goes out and the food intake decreases gradually, and gradually moves to the deep layer of the feeding soil to build its own hibernation nest in the appropriate soil layer. When the temperature drops further, the centipede goes into hibernation completely and does not eat or move. The feeding management during this period is as follows.

1. Feed

According to its feeding situation gradually reduce the feed, and it is best to mix in the feed with digestive function of enzyme preparations, yeast tablets, so as not to cause indigestion.

2. Prevent the temperature of breeding from rising and falling.

At the beginning of hibernation, it is best to close the doors and windows every night and open them for a short time in the warm noon. When the temperature changes too sharply, appropriate heating can be adopted to offset the effect. After the centipede has completely entered hibernation, it should also prevent the breeding house from cooling too much. In the snow and freezing season, the freezing of soil should be absolutely avoided, and warm objects such as straw and foam board can be covered on the soil.

3. Maintain humidity

Although the physiological and metabolic function of the centipede during hibernation is low, because the air is dry in winter, especially the air in the heated feeding house is drier, the moisture of the feeding soil is easy to volatilize, which is easy to cause the small environment around the hibernating centipede to be too dry and cause the body moisture to be lost, resulting in the depletion of the hibernating centipede. Therefore, close attention should be paid to the adjustment of the humidity of the breeding soil during hibernation, and the humidity of the breeding soil should be maintained at 15% and 20%.

4. Prevent rodent invasion

As the hibernating centipede does not have any resistance and escape ability and is vulnerable to rodent attacks, the doors and windows of the breeding house should be sealed and anti-rodent devices should be installed at the entrances and exits through which rats may pass to prevent rats from entering the breeding soil.

5. Management at the end of hibernation

When the centipede is about to wake up from hibernation, the bedding on the surface of the breeding soil should be pulled off in time to prevent the centipede from getting into it after waking up. At the same time, do a good job in the cleanliness and hygiene of the feeding house, thoroughly disinfect the playground, feeding equipment and water drinking facilities, and prepare for next year's feeding.
