In winter and spring, there is a lack of green feed. In order to improve the feeding effect, some breeders add urea to cattle feed, which is OK. In order to make everyone understand the mechanism and specific feeding methods of urea feeding cattle, and give better play to the role of urea in cattle production, the relevant questions are answered as follows:

Why can urea be used to feed cattle

According to the digestive characteristics of ruminants, after the rumen function of cattle is well developed (3-4 months old, ciliates begin to appear in the rumen), the microorganisms in the rumen of cattle can synthesize protein using the nitrogen sources provided by non-protein nitrogen compounds in feed. Urea is a non-protein nitrogenous compound, a chemical product that can be produced in large quantities with low cost. The nitrogen content of urea is very high, generally at 46%. Urea is digested by microorganisms in the rumen of cattle to synthesize bacterial protein, which can replace part of the protein feed.

What are the conditions for feeding cattle with urea

After all, urea is not a protein, and its utilization efficiency is affected by many conditions, so it can not be used blindly in production. The conditions for feeding cattle with urea are as follows:

1. When feeding urea, there must be a certain amount of carbohydrates in the feed to supply the energy needed for the growth and reproduction of bacteria in the rumen. Carbohydrate is an indispensable energy for rumen microorganisms to synthesize protein from nitrogen, so the type and quantity of carbohydrates can directly affect the utilization efficiency of urea. Therefore, when feeding urea to cattle, we should not only feed a certain amount of roughage (such as corn stalk), but also provide a certain amount of feed with high carbon and water content (such as corn, etc.).

two。 When feeding urea to cattle, there must be a certain amount of protein in the feed, because if there is a complete lack of protein in the feed during the growth and reproduction of rumen microorganisms, it will affect the utilization of urea, but when the amount of protein is too much, the effect is not good.

3. When feeding cattle with urea, the level of protein in the feed should not be too high, and it is generally believed that the protein content in the diet should be 9% 12%. If there is more protein feed and the crude protein content is higher, the speed of urea synthesis into protein decreases. The results showed that when the crude protein content in the feed was less than 11%, the utilization rate of urea in the rumen was about 70%, and the effect on the weight gain of cattle was also quite obvious (increased by 39%). The effect of increasing weight gain decreased with the increase of crude protein content in feed. When the content of crude protein in the feed reached 12% or more, the addition of urea had no effect on weight gain, but began to affect weight gain or significant weight loss. Therefore, when using urea as a protein supplement for cattle, we must also consider the content of protein in the feed supplied, otherwise the effect is not good.

To sum up, the conditions of using urea to feed cattle: first, forage grass. Should be fed with low crude protein content of crude straw feed (dry corn straw, wheat straw) or green feed (green corn straw, etc.). Concentrate with high carbohydrate content, and crude protein content is not too high feed, such as corn, wheat bran and so on. You can add urea to gain weight. Second, when feeding wild grass or concentrate with high crude protein in summer and autumn, urea should not be added. Otherwise, the weight gain will be reduced.

How to feed cattle with urea

1. Forage grass: crude forage grass such as wheat straw, dry corn straw or green corn straw, mountain hay, corn and wheat bran for concentrate, etc., the content of crude protein is less than 12%.

two。 Urea feeding amount: each cow is given 20ml 30g urea per 100kg body weight every day.

3. Feeding method: calculate the dosage of urea according to 20ml / 100kg body weight, mix it with crushed corn or chopped coarse material thoroughly after dissolving in water, or add urea to silage and feed it several times a day.

What should be paid attention to when feeding cattle with urea

1. Urea can only be used in adult cattle, because the rumen of lactation calves is not fully developed and the microflora is not normal, so it is not suitable to feed urea.

two。 Urea should be mixed with dry material and fed in crushed grass. Never use water to dissolve and drink. The dosage should be divided into several times, never once.

3. Urea should not be fed too much, otherwise it will cause poisoning.

4. After feeding urea, you can't drink water immediately, at least half an hour apart.
