Prevention and treatment of schistosomiasis in farmed dairy cows
Schistosomiasis is a zoonotic schistosomiasis caused by paragonimus japonicum. The infection rate of cattle was the highest and the pathological changes were more obvious. The main symptoms were anemia, malnutrition and developmental disorders. In China, it mainly occurs in the Yangtze River Basin and the south, but rarely in the north.
Pathogen: the adult of paragonimus japonicus is linear and hermaphroditic, but most of them embrace each other in the animal body. The eggs are excreted from the feces, form miracidia in the water, invade the intermediate host snail and develop into cercariae, escape from the snail body and enter the water. It can be infected by mouth or skin.
Symptoms: acute sick cattle, the main manifestation is that the body temperature rises to more than 40 ℃, showing irregular intermittent fever, and can die of systemic failure caused by severe anemia. Most of the common cases are chronic cases, diseased cattle only see dyspepsia, growth retardation, diarrhea and hematochezia, and gradually lose weight; if the feeding and management conditions are good, the symptoms are not obvious and often become carriers.
Prevention and treatment: to do a good job in the prevention of schistosomiasis, comprehensive prevention and control measures should be taken: ① should do a good job in fecal management, and cow dung is the root cause of infection. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the accumulation of fertilizer, concentrate the feces, and carry out harmless treatment, such as composting, fermentation, and so on, in order to kill insect eggs. ② has changed the way of feeding and management. In areas where schistosomiasis is endemic, cattle drinking water must choose snail-free water sources to avoid infection caused by cercariae. Treatment: praziquantel was given orally at 30mg to 40mg / kg body weight, or intramuscularly at 30mg / kg body weight.
