Experts offer advice on poverty alleviation through industrialization of grassland animal husbandry

On November 14, the first "Qinglong Sheep" Industrial Development and "Southwest Grass Capital" Construction International Forum was held in Xingyi, Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. Experts and scholars from home and abroad gathered together to make suggestions for further promoting grassland animal husbandry industrialization in Southwest Guizhou and even Guizhou Province.

At the forum, Ye Tao, director of the Poverty Alleviation Office of Guizhou Province, suggested strengthening grass and livestock supporting facilities and promoting the development of the whole industrial chain in southwest Guizhou. He said: "Southwest Guizhou can determine grass by livestock, determine yield by sales, perennial grassland, high-quality and high-yield forage grass, comprehensive utilization of crop straw, coordinated development of grass, shrub and forest, and choose three grassland animal husbandry development modes: full grazing, half grazing and half house feeding, and full house feeding." Ye Tao suggested that Southwest Guizhou should actively build grassland animal husbandry parks, cultivate and introduce leading enterprises to demonstrate and drive, accelerate the improvement of industrial chains and industrial systems, integrate planting, processing and sales, especially vigorously develop forage feed, livestock and poultry products and by-product processing, and strengthen marketing and brand building.

"Document No.1 of the Central Committee this year clearly proposes to speed up the development of grass animal husbandry, carry out pilot projects on grain-to-feed and planting and breeding, and promote the coordinated development of the three-dimensional planting structure of grain, cash crops and forage." Liu Gavin, deputy director of the Grassland Supervision Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, introduced in his keynote speech that this is the first time that the central government has emphasized the basic role of grass in animal husbandry from the breeding level, emphasized the importance of close combination of grass and livestock, and its special position in the development of large agriculture. He believed that to build the southwest grass capital and develop the "Qinglong sheep" industry, we should adhere to the general direction of promoting the development of grass animal husbandry, plant grass well like planting grain, and pay attention to brand construction, planned management and industrialization development.

The reporter learned from the forum that in recent years, Guizhou Province has taken grassland animal husbandry as a key industry of the "Ten Poverty Alleviation Industries," vigorously carried out industrialization of grassland animal husbandry to help the poor, focused on supporting a number of sheep, cattle, chickens, ducks and rabbit project counties, covering all counties with poverty alleviation tasks, more than 600 towns and more than 2000 villages, built more than 600 demonstration bases, supported 120,000 farmers to change jobs nearby, and the project increased farmers 'annual income by more than 5000 yuan. Since 2000, Qianxinan Prefecture has built 1.85 million mu of grassland and 28 contiguous grasslands. 150,000 farmers in Quanzhou have realized an average income increase of more than 20,000 yuan by planting grass and raising sheep (cattle), exploring the "Qinglong Model" of planting grass and raising sheep.
