Muskrat, also known as green root mink, water rat, is a kind of precious fur animal that lives in water and lives on land. Muskrats need to go through four hurdles: pool water, temperature, food and rat house.

First, the pool water. Muskrats like to move in the water, so the cleanliness of the pool water is very important. The principle of water supply for muskrats is that clean and hygienic bath water should be guaranteed except in the freezing season, because muskrats excrete in the water and drink pool water, so changing water frequently is an important means to ensure the health of muskrats. Generally, the water change is in the evening, when the muskrat is more active and relatively less disturbed. The water can be changed 1-2 times a day according to the weather and water quality. In the hot season, a small amount of potassium permanganate can be added to the pool water, and even a drinking tank can be added to reduce the occurrence of disease. It should be noted that during the days when male and female muskrats are in estrus, the depth of the pool water should be controlled at 8-10 cm, with the principle of not exceeding the height of the female rat, and the depth of the pool should be kept at about 20 cm at other times.

Second, temperature. Muskrats have a wide range of adaptation and can be raised successfully from 20-70 degrees north latitude. Muskrat can survive the winter safely when the temperature outside the house is-30 ℃ and the indoor temperature is-2 ℃, and frostbite or death is rare. But in summer, muskrats have poor adaptability to hot weather, strong direct light, muggy weather will have a great impact on the fecundity of muskrats, and sometimes even cause death. Therefore, summer must pay attention to do a good job of heat prevention and cooling. An Arbor is added above the rat house to ensure a small amount of ventilation. Muskrats use the pool water to cool down, so they can change the pool water frequently to ensure that the pool water is cool and clean. In addition, muskrats are afraid of light, so they should cover the playground with a cover or sealed chamber when mating, so as to reduce the intensity of direct light and human interference, and ensure the smooth progress of mating.

Third, food. Muskrat is a herbivore, and there are many kinds of feed available at home, such as aquatic plants, weeds, vegetables, young shoots, stems and leaves of various plants, carrots, watermelon peel, sweet potato and so on. The concentrate can be corn, wheat bran, rice bran, bean cake and so on. In daily feed, attention should be paid to the diversification of feed to ensure the overall balance of nutrition. Muskrats have the habit of storing food, so concentrate should not be fed more to prevent indigestion. More green feed can be put to ensure a normal food intake, and the leftover food should be removed as soon as possible to prevent pollution of pool water and rat houses. The muskrat concentrate should be protected against mildew and insects, and the green fodder should also be stored by means of low temperature, drying and cellar storage.

Fourth, the rat house. Muskrats belong to the hamster family of rodents, have a habit of gnawing and making holes, and often need to bite hard objects to sharpen their incisors, so the rat house is made of brick and the playground is fenced with iron wire instead of aluminum wire. The nest area of the rat house should be large, divided into internal and external rooms, so that muskrats can have sex here, as well as the growth and development of litter, lactation and offspring. A certain area of sports ground should be set up in front of the nest room, and a platform for putting food should be set up, and the platform should have a certain inclination to keep dry. In general, the rat house should be dry, clean, with a small amount of ventilation, and be conducive to observing and preventing the spread of the disease.
