Locusts, also known as "grasshoppers", "grass borer", "grasshoppers", "grasshoppers", belong to arthropod phylum, insect class. There are more than 17 species of locusts known in China. Chinese rice locust is the main locust in our country, which mainly harms rice, corn, sugar cane, Zizania caduciflora and other crops.

Chinese rice locust occurs for two generations a year in our land. The first generation of nymphs (also known as locusts) appeared in mid-May and the second generation in late August. Locusts are herbivorous insects, which mainly feed on plant leaves by adults and nymphs, light ones lead to leaf engraving, heavy ones eat up all leaves, leaving only leaf veins. Usually along the river zone, low-lying areas, rice field ridges occur more seriously.

Locusts occur all over the city, mainly in Wangxian, Shenfugang, Xianxia, Huangluzui and other townships, with an average of 50 insects per square meter and 180 serious hills. If it is light, it will reduce production, and if it is heavy, it will lose harvest. Locusts have become a secondary pest that harms crops in our city. To strengthen prevention and control, we can start from three aspects:

1. Agricultural control 1) reduce the number of locusts. Some locusts occur in low-lying areas, and we can transform such plots into ponds, raising fish and shrimp, which can greatly reduce the living places of locusts and better control locusts. 2) in early spring, combined with the ridge of the field, 1 inch of deep turf retting fertilizer was removed to kill the locust eggs. 3) artificial capture of locusts.

2. Biological control 1) protection and utilization of natural enemies. There are many natural enemies of locusts, including frogs, lizards, birds, fungi, viruses, nematodes, predatory beetles, parasitic bees, parasitic flies and so on. 2) feeding chickens and ducks when nymphs gather in the wasteland at the edge of the field. 3) Biopesticide control. At present, the biological pesticides used to control locusts include locust microsporidia, Metarhizium anisopliae and azadirachtin.

3. When chemical control of locusts occurs in the field, when nymphs are concentrated before 3rd instar (late May and late August), use 2.5% cyhalothrin 100ml per mu, or 1.8% avermectin 100ml, or 3% methamectin 20g with water 40kg spray.
