Grasshoppers, commonly known as migratory locusts, are recognized as pests. However, several farmers in Neiqiu County, Hebei Province, such as Gao Yunlong, have become rich by raising and selling grasshoppers, with an annual income of more than 10,000 yuan, which has also led the surrounding farmers to carry out grasshopper farming.

According to Compendium of Materia Medica, grasshoppers can be used alone or in combination to treat a variety of diseases, such as tetanus, infantile typhoid, fever, asthma, tracheitis and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Grasshopper is a medicinal and edible insect, laying eggs, belonging to Insecta Orthoptera, Acrididae. According to statistics, there are 859 species of grasshoppers in the family Acrididae, but only two species can be used as medicine for food, namely, the East Asian migratory grasshopper and the rice migratory grasshopper. Grasshoppers are rich in protein, carbohydrates, insect hormones and other active substances, as well as vitamins A, B, C and phosphorus, calcium, iron, zinc, manganese and other elements.

Grasshopper is not only a delicacy, but also a good medicine. Grasshopper can be used alone or in combination to treat a variety of diseases, such as tetanus, infantile typhoid, fever, asthma and so on. Grasshoppers are dioecious, naturally mate, lay eggs and reproduce twice a year under natural conditions, that is, summer locusts and autumn locusts.

Construction of grasshopper breeding shed

Grasshoppers have the habit of flying and must be raised in sheds. The breeding shed should be built in a ventilated sunny place, and the ground should be 10 cm above the surrounding ground in order to drain water. It is better to use sandy loam soil which is not easy to caking in order to pick up eggs. Monocotyledon plants such as wheat or corn are planted in breeding sheds for grasshoppers to eat. It takes an area of 15 square meters for every 10,000 grasshoppers. Can make use of the free space inside and outside the hospital, use angle iron or wooden sticks, bamboo poles, bamboo slices and other supports to build a shed, according to the size of the shed, use screen to make a shed, the bottom edge is buried in the ground, leaving the door. A zipper is installed at the door to prevent the grasshopper from escaping. The shed is 1.5-2 meters high, which can be covered with plastic film to protect against rain and heat preservation. The construction of the shed must be completed by the end of April.

Culture management of grasshopper

The starting development temperature of the grasshopper is 15 ℃, the highest development temperature is 40 ℃, the suitable development temperature is 25-32 ℃, the air relative humidity is 85% Mel 92%, and the soil moisture content is 15% Mel 18%. Less than 14 ℃ or more than 40 ℃, the grasshopper stops eating and dies. When the temperature is 28-30 ℃, grasshopper eggs hatch. First prepare non-toxic soil and mix well with sawdust at 1:2, with a water content of 20%. Spread 3-5 cm of soil in utensils, distribute grasshopper eggs on the soil, and cover 1 cm thick mixed soil. The cover film of utensils should be checked every half day. After finding the grasshopper, use a soft brush to put it on the food in the shed. The incubation is completed in 10-15 days. Small grasshoppers like to eat fresh and tender wheat seedlings, corn seedlings, weeds and other monocotyledonous plants, the food intake is very small.

Grasshoppers of 1-3 years old should pay attention to rain protection. From 27 to 35 days old, it is an adult. During this period, the skin was molted once every 5-7 days, for a total of 5 times. Each grasshopper lays 70-100 eggs. Grasshoppers like to live in groups and migrate, which are used to feed and reproduce eggs. Therefore, the grasshopper should be given appropriate artificial interference from Eclosion to before spawning to make it migrate in the shed, so as to improve the quantity and quality of spawning. The eggs laid should be covered with wheat bran, weeds and other heat preservation and moisturizing before freezing. Adult grasshoppers should be sold in time if they are not used for planting. Beginners can buy grasshoppers or eggs from farms (households). Grasshoppers belong to special aquaculture, if there is no order and reliable market, breeding must be cautious.

Grasshopper many people may not know its nutritional value, think it is a kind of insect, in fact, grasshopper is a very good dish, and the nutritional value is very rich, its protein content is very high. A lot of people like to eat.
