Site Selection and Layout of Blue Peacock Farm
The male of the blue peacock (scientific name: Pavo cristatus) has an erect pillow crown, gorgeous plumage, and the tail coverts are particularly extended, far exceeding the tail feathers. It has 20 tail feathers, which are long and slightly convex in shape; the lower tail coverings are feathery; the wings are slightly round, the first primary feather is shorter than the 10th, and the fifth is slightly longer; the tarsus is long and strong, much longer than the middle toe claw, and the male is spurred. Lives mainly in hilly forests, dry semi-desertified grasslands, shrubs and deciduous forests, especially near water. In the early morning and evening, the herd forages in the fields and nests on the ground, but perches on trees, feeding mainly on seeds, insects, fruits and small reptiles. It's the national bird of India. It is also one of the two national birds in Iran.
Blue peacocks are more and more widely raised in China, so what do blue peacock farms have? How to choose and layout?
Site selection of breeding Farm
The farm should be built in the area of sandy soil or sandy loam with flat terrain or slight slope (3-5 degrees) to ensure smooth drainage and no stagnant water. Under natural living conditions, blue peacocks like to live in places with yang and yin, so the breeding area should be protected from wind and rain, sunny and good lighting. To avoid the hot sun, trees can be planted inside and outside the farm. According to the quiet environment and health and epidemic prevention needs of blue peacocks, farms should be as far away from towns, major roads, railways and other livestock farms as possible. Traffic conditions are necessary to ensure foreign business relations, transport of feed, sale of breeding birds, breeding eggs and other production conditions, which should be considered in the construction of the field. The daily drinking water, cleaning and disinfection of feeding equipment and hatching of eggs of blue peacocks all need a large amount of water. Therefore, adequate and hygienic water source is one of the necessary conditions for the establishment of breeding farms. The power consumption of the feeding and management of blue peacocks is not large, but in larger farms, such as feed processing, egg hatching, brooding and field lighting, the power consumption will increase. In order to ensure production, the construction of electric power should be completed and generator sets should be equipped according to needs. In order to avoid and reduce the occurrence of infectious diseases, parasites and toxic diseases in blue peacocks, farms should be built in areas where the soil, water and air environment are not polluted.
In addition, taking into account the development of blue peacock farms, the selection of sites should be combined with funds and other conditions, leaving a certain range of room for expansion.
Building facilities and layout of the farm
The main construction facilities of the farm include: breeding cage, sports ground, egg breeding bank, hatching room, feed bank and processing room, scientific research room, veterinary room and various auxiliary facilities for production and life, etc.
The male peacock has well-developed tail feathers and has the habit of resting off the ground. the cage structure should be strong and have enough feeding space. The ground of peacocks of each composition age (male-female ratio is 1-4, 5) can be 30-50 square meters, of which the birdhouse accounts for 1 amp 3 and the sports ground accounts for 2 pm 3. The height of the cage is designed according to 2.3-5 meters. Iron mesh or nylon net with mesh diameter not more than 2.5 cm shall be used around and above the playground, and the cage floor shall be made of cement to facilitate cleaning and disinfection. In order to eliminate feces conveniently, a small amount of fine sand can be laid on top of it. 1.2-1.5 meters from the cage floor, a trunk with a horizontal diameter of 5-7 cm is used as a perch. The young peacock cage reasonably arranges the feeding area according to the number and age of the group, which not only ensures that there is enough sports space but also saves the feeding area as much as possible, so that the area and position of the playground and birdhouse match reasonably and the management is convenient.
In addition, in the northern areas, warm birdhouses (equipped with heating facilities) should be established. Lay more than 30 centimeters of metal mesh or underground walls around the playground to prevent rodent damage. The feeding trough and drinking fountain for blue peacock should be antiseptic, durable, reasonable in structure, easy to use, stable in installation, not easy to pollute and easy to clean and disinfect.
The layout principle of building facilities in the farm should consider convenient management, conducive to production, ensure safety and meet health requirements. According to the order of layout, it can be divided into operation and management area, auxiliary production area, aquaculture production area and health and epidemic prevention area. The operation and management area can be arranged at the entrance of the farm and is composed of functional areas such as administrative management and logistics support. The auxiliary production area is located between the operation and management area and the aquaculture production area, and the main facilities include feed processing room and feed bank. The culture production area is the core of the farm and should be surrounded by a strong wall 1.5-2.5 meters high when possible. The main building facilities in the culture production area, including hatchery, brooding room, breeding birdhouse and adult (species) birdhouse, can be arranged from upwind to downwind in the above order, and there is a certain breeding sanitary distance between each house. The sanitary and epidemic prevention area should keep a certain distance from the production area as far as possible, the faeces and garbage disposal sites should be arranged in the downwind direction that keeps the necessary distance from the site area, and the feces and garbage should be disposed of innocuously.
