Carp vertical scale disease is also known as scale disease, pine scale disease, pine ball disease. The pathogen is thought to be Pseudomonas punctata. It is a common disease of goldfish, common carp, crucian carp and all kinds of tropical fish. it often occurs in North, Central and East China, and sometimes occurs in grass carp, silver carp and bighead carp raised in the south. It is mainly prevalent in late winter and early spring, and transdermal infection usually occurs when the water quality deteriorates or the fish is injured. When the disease is serious, the mortality rate of parent fish that can cause diseased carp is as high as 85%.

Symptoms of vertical scale disease of carp:

Sick fish swim alone, slow and powerless. In the early stage of the disease, the fish is blackened, the body surface is rough, and the scales in the front of the fish stand erect and open outward like pine balls, while the scale sacs at the base of the scales are edema and accumulate translucent exudate so that the scales stand up.

In severe cases, the scales of the whole body stand upright, and there is a bloody exudate in the scales. if you gently press the scales with your hands, the exudates will spray out from under the scales, and the scales will fall off.

Diseased fish are often accompanied by fin base, skin slight hyperemia, exophthalmos, abdominal enlargement, ascites and other symptoms; diseased fish anemia, Gill, liver, spleen, kidney color are lighter, Gill cover inner epidermis hyperemia; serious fish fin base hyperemia, fin decay phenomenon.

The diseased fish were slow to swim, had difficulty breathing, had an upward abdomen and died 2 to 3 days later.

The cause of vertical scale disease of common carp:

According to the study, the bacteria causing vertical scale disease are: Trichoderma punctata, Pseudomonas hydrophila, Aeromonas hydrophila and so on. In the season of low water temperature, especially after overwintering, the fish have poor physique, weak resistance and easy to get sick. In addition, after the injury, it is easy to part of the scale, the frequency of water change should not be too large.

Vertical scale disease is common in carp and occurs more frequently in spring every year. The prevention and control of vertical scale disease of carp is introduced as follows:

Add fresh water and inject new water at the initial stage of the disease to stop the spread of the disease; soak garlic, add 0.5 kg of mashed 0.5 kg of water to 100 kg of water and wash the diseased fish several times; soda, before spring release, mix 3% baking soda solution with 2% salt water and bathe fish for 4 10 minutes. Sprinkle lime water, sprinkle the whole pond with quicklime solution once or twice a month in the onset season, so that the pH value of the pond water should be maintained at about 8; apply Chinese herbal medicine, use the extract of Chinese herbal medicine Sophora flavescens or Artemisia leaves, wash diseased fish for 20 minutes, once a day, 4-5 times in a row. You can also use 2500 grams of Sophora flavescens or Artemisia leaves on the surface of the water according to 667m2 (per mu), stir-fry concentrated juice three times, sprinkle the whole pool once a day for 3-5 days, take oxytetracycline, add 24g of oxytetracycline per kilogram of feed for 36 days, apply mixed solution, 5 grams of copper sulfate, 2 grams of ferrous sulfate and 10 grams of bleach powder per cubic meter of water, soak the diseased fish for about 8 minutes. Can also be used per cubic meter of water with 1 gram of copper sulfate, 0.5 grams of ferrous sulfate, 2 grams of bleach, sprinkle the whole pool, once every other day, 2-3 times.
