Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The breeding of lambs during lactation can be divided into tough milk period (5 days at birth), normal milk period (6-60 days) and the transition period from milk to forage (61-90 days). The milk of ewes within 5 days after delivery is called colostrum, which is rich in nutrients and is extremely important for the growth and development of lambs.

The feeding method of lambs

The breeding of lambs during lactation can be divided into tough milk period (5 days at birth), normal milk period (6-60 days) and the transition period from milk to forage (61-90 days).

The milk within 5 postpartum deaths of ewes is called colostrum, which is rich in nutrition, which plays an extremely important role in the growth and development of lambs and helps to discharge meconium. Therefore, lambs should be allowed to eat early and eat more colostrum as early as possible, the earlier they eat, the faster they gain weight, the stronger their physique, less morbidity, and higher survival rate. During the colostrum period, it is best to let the lambs breast-feed naturally with the ewes, and then change to artificial breast-feeding after 5 days. If artificial feeding colostrum, from 20 to 30 minutes after birth, 4 times a day, feeding from 0.6 to 1.2 kg, gradually increase.

During the normal milk period (6-60 days), milk is the main food for lambs. The period from birth to 45 days old is the fastest growing period for lambs, and from birth to 75 days old is the fastest growing period for lambs. Lambs grow fast when they are young, and their nutritional requirements are large. If they give less milk, they will not be able to meet their nutritional needs. And after it can eat grass, the rumen begins to enlarge, give a lot of milk, make it unwilling to eat grass, but also affect the development of stomach and intestines.

Within two months after birth, the growth rate of the lamb is related to the amount of milk it eats, and it needs 60.8 kg of milk for every 1kg of weight gain. 80kg milk is given during the whole lactation period, and the average daily gain is not less than 140g for ewes and 160g for male lambs. In artificial lactation, the first problem encountered is to teach lambs to breast-feed with bowls, bottles or lactation devices, which is called teaching milk. When teaching to breast-feed, let the lamb starve for a long time, usually leave the ewe in the afternoon, and teach the next morning. Begin to teach to hold the sheep in one hand and hold the bowl in the other to make the sheep's mouth reach into the bowl to drink milk. Artificial lactation increased the amount of milk from 10 days old, reached the highest at 25-50 days, and gradually decreased after 50 days.

Starting from 10 days old, the young grass and hay are tied up and hung in the air to allow the lambs to feed freely. 20 days after birth, I began to teach food. Put the material scalded with boiling water in the feed trough to guide the lambs to gnaw, and the food will be eaten several times. 40-50 days after reducing milk feed, if the material can not be eaten, it will affect the growth and development.

During the transition period between milk and forage (61-90 days), equal emphasis was placed on milk and forage, paying attention to the nutritional level and full price of energy and protein in the diet. 16%-20% of digestible protein and 74% of digestible nutrients were recommended. In the later period, the amount of milk decreased continuously, mainly with high quality dried seal and concentrate, and whole milk was only used as protein supplement feed.

Drink warm boiled water 2 months ago, 2 months later to weaning to drink cold boiled water, 4 months old, husband can drink fresh tap water when the gas is warm.

After colostrum, lambs can be fed with artificial milk. The artificial milk formula is as follows: skim milk powder 68%, animal oil 18%, fish meal 6%, soybean meal 4%, molasses 4%, vitamin A 4000IU / kg, vitamin D10001U / kg, vitamin E2501U / kg, neomycin 70mg / kg.

Feeding and management techniques of lambs

The birth weight of the lamb needs to be weighed immediately before eating colostrum for the first time, check the ear number of the ewe before weighing, then check the sex of the lamb, and make a good record, which can be used as important reference data for future feeding and management, which is the first step in lamb feeding and management.

The milk secreted by ewes within 3-5 days after delivery is thick and nutritious, which is called colostrum. Colostrum is easily digested and absorbed by lambs and can not be replaced by other foods or artificial milk. Colostrum contains more magnesium salt, magnesium ion has a light diarrhea effect, can promote meconium excretion and prevent constipation. In addition, colostrum contains more antibodies and lysozyme, which can almost resist the invasion of all kinds of Escherichia coli. Newborn lambs should be guaranteed colostrum half an hour before birth. Lambs that can not eat ewe colostrum had better eat the colostrum of other ewes, otherwise it is more difficult to survive.

Replenish feed in time

With the growth of lambs, the rumen digestive function gradually improved, the expansion of rumen volume, only milk can not meet the nutritional needs of lamb growth and development, must be timely supplementary feeding to promote rumen growth and exercise gastrointestinal digestion.

Lambs should pay attention to supplement feed as early as possible. When lambs are accustomed to forage, the forage used should be diversified, nutritious and easy to digest. In the process of feeding, lambs should be fed less frequently, fixed time and then coarse.

The concentrate has special requirements, such as grinding, stir-frying and mixing the right amount of salt and bone meal when necessary to improve the appetite of lambs. In order to avoid ewes grabbing food, a feeding fence should be set up for lambs. The feeding bar can be set in one corner or one side of the sheep house, separated by wooden or iron railings, as long as it is impossible for the ewes to enter, and the lambs can go in and feed. The feeding trough can be made of cement or a large iron basin can be used so that the lambs can not be lifted.

When replenishing feed for lambs, it is necessary to be regular, quantitative, fixed-point and fixed-person, so as to form a good conditioned reflex and avoid bad stress. Do not eat zero, otherwise it is not easy to fat. Proper exercise of lambs can strengthen their physique and improve their disease resistance.

Main points of feeding after weaning

After weaning, it is best to use high-quality fresh forage or legume hay, followed by silage, ammoniation and microsilage made of crop straw. After ammoniation or microsilage treatment, the straw has good palatability and high utilization rate, and the feeding effect of microsilage is better.

Feeding only forage grass can not meet the nutritional needs of lambs, so a certain amount of concentrate must be supplemented. The proportion of concentrate can be increased gradually, and should be increased to more than 40% at the end of the adaptation period. The composition of concentrate should also be changed slowly, and the energy level of the diet should be gradually increased so that the lambs can adapt to the feeding of high-energy fattening diet.

Lambs should eat more than one day to prevent sheep from eating too much, causing bloating, stopping eating or diarrhea. Generally speaking, in the first few days, it is fed 5 times 6 times a day, and after 3 times 7 days, it can be changed to 3 times 4 times, and then it can be changed to free feeding.

In addition to nutrition, the raising and management of lambs should also pay attention to enclosure hygiene and timely disease prevention, and the physique of lambs is weak, so they should be checked every day and found in time. An important point is not to let lambs go to the corner, so that lambs are prone to catch colds. with swinging, continue to develop with the possibility of death.
