Growth and reproduction

The meat pigeon has the advantages of early sexual maturity, rapid reproduction and rapid growth. Pigeons can be paired at the age of 5 to 6 months. Each pair of breeding pigeons can produce 8 to 12 pairs of squab per year, while squab can be sold after only 25 to 30 days of feeding, weighing up to 500 million 750 grams. The breeding cycle of meat pigeon is short, the turnover is fast, the investment is low and the effect is quick. The houses and equipment required for raising meat pigeons are simple, the scale can be large or small, and the feed consumption is low. The daily grain consumption of each pair of pigeons is no more than 100 grams, mainly corn and other raw grain, no processing, low price, convenient and easy to obtain feed raw materials, and low feeding cost. You can see the benefit in the same month when you buy breeding pigeons. Meat pigeon has good adaptability, less disease, simple feeding and management technology, high and stable income and low risk.

Build a pigeon house

1. Pigeon house

In view of the five fears of pigeons: fear of dampness, fear of boredom, fear of darkness, fear of dirt, fear of natural enemies, building a house requires meat pigeons.

The terrain is high and dry, well ventilated, sunny, clean and sanitary, and can prevent natural enemies. It is better to face south to the north and 5-10 degrees to the east. Pigeon houses are divided into two kinds of ① pigeon houses, also known as production pigeon houses, which can use ordinary houses or specially build simple row-type pigeon houses with three-dimensional multi-storey pigeon cages. ② youth pigeon house, can also make use of the old house, it is better to raise in small groups, preferably each room is 10 to 15 square meters, the house is 2 to 2.2 meters high, and the house is best connected to the playground, which is surrounded by lead wire mesh or nylon net. There are no pigeon cages in the young pigeon house, only some perches to live a collective life.

2. Pigeon cage, pigeon gear

Pigeon cage production of pigeons to cage is better, mostly using three layers, single cage breeding, each single cage width 50 cm, depth 50 cm, height 45 cm. There are nest basin rack and nest basin in the cage, and food trough, drinking fountain and health sand cup are hung on the edge of the cage. Generally, six single cages are combined in a group, which can be made of bamboo and wood, lead wire and triangular iron.

Pigeon utensils: including pigeon nest, food trough, health sand cup, drinking fountain, perch, anklet and so on. Pigeon nests can often be made of wood strips and plastic fruit pots, with a diameter of 18 cm and a height of 4 cm. The inner bottom of the nest is made of soft hay, and the nest basin is used for the production of pigeon hatching. Anklet, about 1cm high, ring-shaped, with an aperture of 8mm. It is made of plastic and lead. It is easy to record and print numbers. Generally, young pigeons used for breeding should be put on at the age of 7-10 days.

Reproductive performance

Pigeons lay eggs, hatch and brood all the year round. At the age of 6 months, they were sexually mature, with an incubation period of 18 days and a breast-feeding period of 30 days. Usually a pair of pigeons produces 5 or 7 pairs of young pigeons per year. Pigeons are bred in monogamy. The female pigeon lays 2 eggs per litter, that is, after laying one egg the first day, she lays another egg the next day, and then hatches. In the process of hatching, male and female pigeons take turns to nest, male pigeons work the day shift (9: 00 to 16:00), and female pigeons nest from 16:00 to 9 o'clock the next day. In the process of hatching, it is necessary to pick up the eggs manually, generally check and pick out the azoospermic eggs and dead embryo eggs in time after 4 or 5 days of incubation, and pick up the dead embryo eggs again on the 10th day of hatching. If you encounter a single pigeon egg hatching, you should join the nest in time.

Nutrition and feed

Each pair of adult pigeons drink 120 to 300 milliliters of water per day. The feed contains crude protein, 12%-15% for young pigeons and 15%-18% for breeding season. Fat content 3% to 5%, supplement multi-vitamin and minerals. The feed is fresh and high quality, and it is forbidden to feed inferior and moldy feed.

Health sand should be used now and keep it fresh. by breaking and mixing various ingredients, it can be fed every day or twice a week. Each pair of pigeons is about 5 grams per day and 3 kilograms for the whole year.
