Hermit crab heard this name to know that this kind of crab is living on other animals. Hermit crabs have a special appearance, often with other animal shells on their backs, while showing a few feet in the crawl. Now many people have begun to raise it in hand, so before breeding, what we must be most concerned about is its breeding technology.

What do hermit crabs eat?

Hermit crabs are scavengers, which means they can accept almost anything they can eat, any feed, fruits and vegetables, rice, dead fish and shrimp. However, the difference between strawberry hermit crabs and ordinary hermit crabs is that they often need to supplement carrots to maintain bright body color. Otherwise, the red will gradually fade. The best source of carotene is a special brightening feed for shrimp or red tropical fish. In addition, they also have the habit of living in groups, so individuals raised alone will not adapt as well as more than one.

How to raise hermit crabs

1. Temperature and humidity. As hermit crabs live in the subtropics, the temperature should be maintained at 20-30 degrees Celsius. when it is at 15 degrees Celsius, the movement will begin to slow down and die below 10 degrees Celsius. The feeding tank can be maintained at 26 degrees 30 degrees with a hot blanket or ultraviolet light. Since hermit crabs breathe through their gills, they cannot breathe when the humidity is low. Please maintain a humidity of 60-80%. You need to use water with calcium salt (do not give tap water containing chlorine) for manual spray 2-3 times every morning and evening.

2. The choice of drinking water. Edible water can be mineral water, distilled water or cold boiled water, do not give tap water containing chlorine, land hermit crabs use the gills to breathe, and water containing chlorine can harm their health. Use 2 basins to hold fresh water (for drinking) and sea water (for bathing) respectively. The amount of sea water is 100ml:3g (about 2 teaspoons of authentic green tea empty bottle from 500ml).

3. Individuals of different sizes are raised separately in the same feeding tank. If large individuals and small individuals are raised at the same time, careful attention should be paid to whether large individuals will attack small individuals. If this happens, please raise them separately.

4. if the reserve tank is prepared to raise too many land hermit crabs (there are more than 6 crabs per foot), 1 or 2 backup tanks should be prepared to serve as a refuge for land crabs in molting. For example, when an individual is found to show signs of molting, so that they can be put in another feeding tank. In addition, the backup cylinder can also be used as a treatment room for individuals who are sick or cut themselves under pressure.

Points for attention in cleaning hermit crabs

1. The detergent is very toxic to the land hermit crab, so never use detergent, lye and other detergents when cleaning the feeding tank. Bacteria are easy to grow in summer and can be washed more frequently, but not so frequently in winter. On average, it is cleaned every 2-3 months.

2. If strange smell or insects are found, the feeding tank should be cleaned as soon as possible. Before cleaning, we should pay attention to whether there are individual land hermit crabs missing in the feeding tank. If an individual is missing, it means that an individual is hiding in the sand and may soon be molting, so it is necessary to stop cleaning the feeding tank.

3. Prepare a plastic tank and let the hermit crabs bathe in warm water with calcium salt at the same depth as the snail shell. When we take a bath, we put the spiral shells face up, put them into the water, and let them walk in the water for 1-2 minutes and then pick them up.

Feeding time of hermit crabs

Hermit crabs are nocturnal animals and are best fed after 10:00 in the evening. Don't give them onions, mustard foods, spicy foods, processed foods with preservatives or additives, sugars, oily foods, food with insecticidal effects, vegetables and plants with insecticidal effects.

Hermit crabs eat relatively miscellaneous food, but be sure to eat some carrots to maintain its color. When breeding hermit crabs, we must pay attention to the temperature and water quality, so that we need to clean it timely, so that it can grow more healthily.
