Carassius auratus mainly feeds on natural and artificial food. Natural food mainly has animal bryozoa, rotifer cladocera, etc., plant Spirogyra, higher plant seed leaves, etc. Artificial feed is mainly synthetic pellet feed, its protein content in more than 33%. To grasp the characteristics of crucian carp eat less, feeding many times a day to provide nutrition, so that crucian carp rapid growth, improve yield.

1. Natural food

Crucian carp's diet is more miscellaneous and wider, moving, plant bait eat. Crucian carp in different stages of growth, feeding habits will have some differences. Animal food is mainly bryozoa, rotifers, cladocera, copepods and shrimp, etc. Plant food is Spirogyra, seeds and leaves of higher plants and diatoms, etc. When the body length specification is 1- 5 cm, the variety of food will increase, in addition to plankton, there are fragments of young buds and leaves of higher plants. When the body length reached 10-15cm, the number of higher plants increased significantly, and when the body length was more than 15cm, it mostly ate benthos.

2. Artificial feed

Crucian carp is particularly suitable for farming in rich water because it can feed on a variety of phytoplankton and plant and animal feeds as well as organic debris. If the farmer does not have a livestock farm at the head of the pond, it is necessary to apply 200-300 kg of fermented organic fertilizer, or 2.5 kg of urea and 5 kg of calcium superphosphate, every 10-15 days or so. In addition, artificial feed with a protein content of more than 33% is required. Crucian carp has no stomach and eats less each time, so it needs to feed many times a day to meet its nutritional needs and ensure normal growth. This is a key factor in obtaining a bumper harvest of artificially cultured crucian carp.

Crucian carp feed feeding also has four fixed principles, different months of feeding times are not the same. 4-5 Feed 5 times a day in June, 8 times a day from June to September, 4 times a day in October and 2-3 times a day in other months. When the temperature is higher in summer and autumn, crucian carp grows faster and has a strong appetite. The feed amount is about 6% of the body weight. When the temperature is lower in winter and spring, the feed amount is about 3% of the body weight.

Particle Size and Feeding Rate of Pellet Feed

The particle size of the crucian carp feed is selected according to the specification of the fish, when the specification is below 10g/tail, the feed with the particle size of 0.5mm is selected, when the specification is 10- 30g/tail, the feed with the particle size of 1.5mm is selected, when the specification is 75- 100g/tail, the feed with the particle size of 2.00mm is selected, when the specification is 150- 300g/tail, the feed with the particle size of 2.4mm is selected, and when the specification is above 300g/tail, the feed with the particle size of 3.2mm is selected.

Fish size and pond water temperature have a direct impact on feeding capacity, so feeding rate should be adjusted according to the actual situation of fish ponds.
