Last Updated: 2024/11/06, At present, river shrimp culture is generally conducted in summer and autumn and in winter and spring, which is released from mid-July to early August of that year, and the river shrimp caught on the market before and after the Spring Festival are summer and autumn river shrimp; the river shrimp released in early March and listed in mid-late June are winter and spring river shrimp. River shrimp can be used every year.

At present, shrimp culture generally adopts summer and autumn and winter and spring double seasons culture, the shrimp that is released from middle July to early August of that year and caught and marketed around Spring Festival are summer and autumn shrimp; the shrimp that is released in early March of the next year and marketed in middle and late June are winter and spring shrimp. Shrimp can lay eggs 3-4 times a year, when the water temperature reaches 15℃ above, female shrimp will reach sexual maturity, will begin molting, and then will mate with male shrimp, mating 3-10 hours later female shrimp will hold yellow eggs.

Shrimp is a kind of high-quality shrimp growing in fresh water. It tastes fresh and nutritious. Shrimp culture is an agricultural aquaculture project with high economic value.

At present, most farmers adopt the double-season shrimp breeding mode of summer and autumn and winter and spring. Generally, the shrimp in summer and autumn are put into the pond from the middle and late July to the beginning of August of that year, and can be caught and sold around the Spring Festival; the shrimp in winter and spring are generally put into the pond at the beginning of March of the next year, and can be caught and sold in the middle and late June.

Shrimp can lay eggs 3-4 times a year. Generally, when the water temperature is above 15℃ from mid-April to early May, the sexually mature female shrimp will begin to reproduce and molt. Generally, the molting process takes only about 2 minutes. After molting female and male shrimp will mate through the abdomen, mating time will last about 5 minutes, after mating 3-10 hours female shrimp will hold eggs, eggs color yellow.

Technique of Shrimp Culture

1. Pond selection

The pond for breeding shrimp requires sufficient fresh water source, clear water quality without pollution, the bottom of the pond is preferably sandy bottom, the area is generally controlled at about 3-5 mu, and the water depth is about 1.5-2.5m. Before putting shrimp fry, the pond needs to be disinfected to provide a high-quality living environment for shrimp fry.

2. Fattening bait

7 days before putting shrimp fry, injecting 30cm of water into the pond, filtering the pond by using a 60-80 mesh sieve silk net, putting 50 kg/mu of livestock manure base fertilizer or 5kg/mu of urea into the pond to fertilize the water quality, promoting the mass growth and reproduction of plankton in the water, and providing sufficient natural bait for shrimp fry.

3. Put shrimp seedlings

When putting shrimp fry, it is best to choose the water temperature to be stable at 18-20℃. One week before putting, shrimp fry need to be desalinated. After the specific gravity reaches 1.003 or less, shrimp fry with specifications of 0.7-1.0cm are generally controlled at a density of 30,000 - 40,000/mu. Shrimp fry with specifications below 0.7cm need to be temporarily cultured. Generally, shrimp ponds can also be mixed with 80-150 silver carp species with specifications of 10- 20cm.

4. Feed feeding

Shrimp larvae can basically feed on plankton in the water one month before they are put into the pond. They do not need to feed. After one month, they can feed some compound bait, shellfish meat and fresh fish in an appropriate amount. The daily feed amount should be 3-5% of the shrimp group weight. When the temperature is high from July to September, the feed amount can be added appropriately, but not too much, so as not to cause waste. Feeding 2-3 times a day, feeding amount in the daytime accounts for 1/3 of the whole day, and feeding amount in the evening accounts for 2/3 of the whole day.

5. Regulate water quality to prevent diseases

10 days after putting shrimp seedlings, about 10- 15cm is added into the pond every week; when the temperature is high in summer, the pond water is changed by 20- 30cm every 2-3 days; quicklime is sprinkled into the pond every half month according to the proportion of 5- 10kg/mu for disinfection, so as to improve the water quality and bottom quality in the pond; bacteria in the pond can also be killed to promote the molting of river shrimps; 1-3% garlic bait is added into the feed every half month or so in the breeding process for continuous feeding for 3-5 days to prevent the shrimp population from falling ill.

6, capture

Shrimp is generally cultured for about 80-100 days, and the body length of shrimp can reach 7-10cm, so it can be sold on the market. Generally, net catch or water cube in stiff pond can be used for re-catching. Shrimp can be transported by dry method after 36 days out of water, and the survival rate can reach about 90%.
