River shrimp eat various kinds of benthic small invertebrates, dead aquatic animals, organic detritus and plant detritus in natural waters, and artificial culture mainly feeds them with animal baits such as tofu dregs, distiller's grains, rice, silkworm pupae, snails and wheat flour, but they should be fed with feed to ensure a balanced nutrition of river shrimp.

What kind of food does river shrimp eat?

River shrimp are omnivorous animals, they do not have high requirements for bait, young shrimp mainly feed on plankton, adults living in natural waters mainly feed on a variety of benthic small invertebrates, aquatic animal carcasses, organic debris, plant fragments and so on. Artificially cultured river shrimp can be fed with animal baits such as distiller's grains, bean curd dregs, bean cakes, silkworm pupae, rice, snails, wheat flour, clam meat, fish meal, etc., and match them with compound feed to ensure that the feed is adequate. If there is a lack of food, they will eat each other.

Matters needing attention in river shrimp culture

1. Environmental conditions

The water for cultivating river shrimp must meet the water quality standards of fishery waters, the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water must be sufficient, the water depth should be controlled at about 1.2-1.5 meters, the silt at the bottom of the pond should not be too much, and the sediment had better be hard. River shrimp have phototaxis. They like to lurk in dark gravel or aquatic plants during the day and come out to look for food at night, so they should plant some aquatic plants around the pond for them to perch and climb.

2. Feed feeding

River shrimp are omnivorous animals, they will feed on zooplankton, algae, copepods, organic detritus, filamentous algae, invertebrates and small aquatic insects at the larval stage. If they are artificially cultured, they can be fed with animal feeds such as small miscellaneous fish, fly maggots and earthworms, and it is best to feed them with some formula feed to ensure a balanced and comprehensive nutrition of river shrimp.

3. Spawning

There are two peak periods for river shrimp spawning, that is, in late spring and early summer every year, the old shrimp will begin to lay eggs after overwintering, and some of the first generation of young shrimp will also begin to lay eggs in autumn. therefore, in the process of culture, it is necessary to decide whether or not to breed in autumn according to the actual situation, in order to improve yield and efficiency.

4. Rational stocking

Generally speaking, the separate culture of river shrimp is carried out from the middle of June to the middle of July every year, and the release density is controlled at 60-80 000 pieces / mu. If the size of shrimp fry is large, the release density should be reduced appropriately. If mixed culture with fish, it is best to put in mid-July-mid-August every year. The release density of shrimp fry of specification 2cm is controlled at 15000 pieces / mu, and if shrimp with eggs is put in, 25-30 jin / mu is put in. The specific amount of input should be judged according to the actual situation.

5. Daily management

After the shrimp seedlings are released, the water quality must be monitored every day, and the water must be changed in time to ensure that the water quality is clear and promote the growth of river shrimps. According to the growth habits of river shrimps, feed should also be given in the evening to prevent river shrimps from cannibalizing each other due to lack of bait at night. Disinfect the pond with quicklime regularly to prevent diseases and ensure the healthy growth of river shrimps.
