Last Updated: 2024/11/03, It is necessary for ewes to give birth to two babies a year through the combination of shortening the lactation period and strengthening nutrition. Lambs can be raised with ewes within a week of birth, but they need to be raised separately from ewes during the day after a week of birth, with only three meals a day breastfeeding.

The ewes need to shorten lactation period and strengthen nutrition to produce twice a year. Lambs can be raised together with ewes within one week after birth, but they should be raised separately from ewes during the day after one week of birth, and only breastfed three meals a day, and feed themselves in the rest of the time. Must not be forced weaning, to avoid lambs and ewes appear stress reaction, resulting in delayed estrus, resulting in the inability to produce two births a year.

The ewes give birth twice a year, which can greatly improve the economic benefits of farmers and effectively improve the production level of ewes. So what is the method of ewes giving birth twice a year? Attention needs to be paid to the following aspects.

1. Shorten lactation period

The pregnant period of ewes is about five months, and it takes ten months to give birth to two fetuses. Because the lactation of ewes will lead to a large amount of secretion of prolactin in the anterior pituitary gland, it will also cause the secretion of hypothalamic pituitary gland to increase, which can lead to serious shortage of lutein secretion quantity and frequency. Finally, ewes cannot ovulate in advance, so they cannot oestrus in advance, resulting in the failure to achieve the result of giving birth to two fetuses in one year. Therefore, it is necessary to shorten the lactation period of ewes in order to make ewes give birth to the second fetus.

II. Do not force weaning

One week after the lamb is born, it is the most critical period for the demand for breast milk. Half a month after the lamb is born, the breast milk has no special effect on the lamb. If the lamb is suddenly forcibly weaned, both the lamb and the ewe will be restless and will run around, jump and bark in the breeding place, which will cause serious harm to the ewe.

This stress reaction will cause the ewes to be in an unadapted state for a period of time, thus affecting the weight and physical strength of the ewes, and then affecting the next estrus of the ewes. Although the weaning time of the lambs is shortened, it also affects the estrus time of the ewes.

III. The best weaning day for lambs

Within a week after the lamb is born, the ewes and lambs are fed together, so that the lambs can freely suck breast milk for a week. After the lamb is born for a week, the lambs and ewes are fed separately in the daytime, and only breast milk is fed three times in the morning, middle and evening, and the lambs are taught to feed themselves in the rest of the time.

After a month of this, the lambs are fully adapted to weaning, both ewes and lambs avoid stress reactions, and the lactation period of the ewes is shortened, allowing them to prepare for pregnancy in good condition.

IV. Strengthening nutrition

There are many breeds of sheep in China that belong to seasonal reproduction. Most sheep are mated in autumn. They can be bred in October of that year and can give birth to lambs from February to March of the next year. Nutrition should be strengthened after the ewes give birth. It takes more than half of the time to feed the ewes in captivity and a small part of the time to graze the ewes.

Then the ewes are bred again from April to May, and in the autumn they can produce lambs again, thus achieving two lambs a year.
