According to the announcement of the National Bureau of Statistics, the total grain output of Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces has reached a new high, becoming the region with the fastest grain growth and the greatest contribution in the country, and further playing the important role of "big granary" and "grain market regulator."

According to the 2015 grain output announcement recently issued by the National Bureau of Statistics, the country's total grain output is 621.435 million tons, including 148.005 million tons in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Inner Mongolia. the proportion of the total grain output of the four provinces in the country increased from 17.7% in 2003 to 23.8% in 2015.

Data show that the country's total grain output in 2015 increased by 14.408 million tons over 2014, an increase of 2.4 percent. The total grain output of the four provinces and regions in Northeast China has increased by 5.195 million tons over 2014, accounting for more than 36 per cent of the national grain increase.

Judging from the history of grain production in China and the measures taken by the country for food security, Northeast China has always been in a very important strategic position. As the largest producing area of corn, high-quality japonica rice and soybean in China, Northeast China has always been an important base for commercial grain production, grain transportation and commercial grain reserve. According to the ranking of total grain output, Heilongjiang ranks first in the country, Jilin Province fourth and Inner Mongolia 10th.

In addition to being used locally, most of the grain in Northeast China is sold to East China, South China, and North China. Liu Xiaoran, deputy secretary general of the Corn Branch of the China Grain Industry Association, said that at present, there are only five provinces (regions) of grain transfer in China, while the northeast region accounts for three. This region has become a supplier of japonica rice, corn and other commercial grain for China's "transportation of grain from the north to the south", with the northeast accounting for more than 60% of the country's grain export.
