Estrous cycle judgment: after mating, if the estrus is no longer in estrus for 19-23 days, it can be initially determined as pregnancy. Behavior and external characteristics: gradually enlarged abdominal circumference, dry vulva, sagging tail, sleepy and gluttonous for pregnancy. Look at the breast method: gently pinch the penultimate pair of nipples, if there is a harder breast duct is pregnant.

Tips for judging whether sows are pregnant or not

1. Urine test

Sows can take about 10 milliliters of morning urine about 5-10 days after breeding, and properly put about 1 milliliter of vinegar or 1 milliliter of 5% iodine. After it is heated to the boiling point, if the urine color is red, that is, the sow is pregnant, if the urine color is brownish green or yellowish, the color gradually disappears when the urine temperature drops, that is, the sow is not pregnant.

2. According to the estrous cycle judgment method

After normal estrus mating, sows will not be in estrus for about 19-23 days, so that the pregnancy of sows can be preliminarily confirmed. This method is suitable for sows with a normal estrous cycle.

3. Judge according to sow behavior and external characteristics.

If the sow becomes pregnant after mating, its abdominal circumference will slowly increase, the tail will droop, the vulva is relatively dry, shrink into a line, or the vulva obviously tilts upward, the lower union slowly contracts and closes, the temperament is more gentle, the fur is bright and close to the body, sleepy and gluttonous, and the fat recovers faster.

4. Look at the breast method

(1) about 3-4 days after mating, the sow can gently pinch the second-to-last pair of nipples with its hands. If you touch a hard milk duct, the sow is pregnant.

(2) about a month after mating, you can pay attention to the color of the nipple of the sow. If the nipple is elongated and the attachment site is a black-purple halo, it means that the sow is pregnant, and you can also pay attention to the arrangement of the nipples of the hind legs of the sow. If the nipple base expands and bulges, and the front end of the nipple opens outward, it means she is pregnant.

5. Observe the behavior of sows

Empty sows are more active, while pregnant sows like to be quiet, do not want to move, and have a better appetite. When fed, pregnant sows usually eat faster than non-pregnant sows.

6. Watch the fetal movement

In general, the fetal movement of the sow can be touched after 70 days of pregnancy, and the abdominal circumference of the sow increases significantly after 80 days of pregnancy.

Second, how to predict the litter size of sows without B-ultrasound

If fetal movement occurs in the position of the second or third nipple in front of the pregnant sow, it can be basically determined that the litter size of the sow is more than 12. If the fetal movement appears in the position of the third or fourth nipple, then the litter size is about 10. If fetal movement occurs after the fourth nipple, the number of litters is less than 8.
