Camellia, also known as Tu Chun, Toona sinensis, Nedong, late Camellia, originated in China, is a common ornamental flower. When did the camellia blossom? How to maintain it?

When did camellia blossom?

The flowering period of camellia is from January to April, but the flowering time is different according to different regions and varieties. For example, camellia in the south mostly blossoms in March-April, while in the north, the climate is more cold than indoor farming, so it can blossom in November of the first year.

How to maintain camellia?

1. Soil

When camellias are cultivated in open field, the soil layer is deep, loose, good drainage, pH 5-6 is the most suitable, alkaline soil is not suitable for camellia growth. Potted soil uses fertile, loose, slightly acidic loam or rotten leaf soil.

two。 Temperature

The optimum growth temperature of Camellia is 18-25 ℃, 13-18 ℃ from March to September, and 10-13 ℃ from September to March of the following year. When the temperature is above 12 ℃, it starts to sprout, and when it is over 30 ℃, it stops growing. The initial temperature of flowers is 2 ℃, and the suitable temperature for flowers to open is 10-20 ℃. The cold-tolerant varieties of Camellia can tolerate-10 ℃ for a short time, and the general varieties-3-4 ℃. Leaf burns occur when the summer temperature exceeds 35 ℃.

3. Light

Camellia is a semi-negative plant, suitable for growth under scattered light, afraid of direct light exposure, seedlings need shade. However, long-term overshade is disadvantageous to the growth of camellia, thin leaves, less flowering, affecting the ornamental value. Adult plants need more light to facilitate flower bud formation and flowering.

4. Watering

Water the camellias moderately to keep the potted soil and the surrounding environment moist, and do not water the flowers when watering. The tap water for watering the flowers should be kept for two days, or Rain Water should be chosen.

5. Fertilizer application

It is necessary to apply fertilizer two to three times a month in spring, with thin alum fertilizer water and fully fermented rice water being the best, some phosphate and potash fertilizer can be properly added in summer and autumn, and less fertilizer can be applied in winter.

6. Change the basin

Camellias have to change pots and soil every two years in order to ensure the nutrients needed for camellias to grow. Change the pot should be carried out half a month after the flowering period, do not remove all the old soil from the roots, and remember to water the flowers after putting them into the new plate.

In order to make the camellia bloom better, it needs to be pruned regularly when the buds are dense, and the withered buds should be cut off in time after flowering. Follow the above methods for maintenance, and you will not be afraid that your camellia will not blossom.
