Tomato is a kind of food that can be eaten as a fruit or cooked as a vegetable. Tomatoes need proper management to grow well in the process of planting, so how to manage growing tomatoes?

1. Basic introduction of tomatoes

Tomato is an annual or perennial herb of the order Tubulaceae, Solanaceae and Tomato. Tomato is widely cultivated in northern China. Tomato is a temperature-loving vegetable. Under normal conditions, the optimum temperature for assimilation is 20-25 ℃, and the optimum soil temperature for root growth is 20-22 ℃.

There are many varieties of tomatoes, including Maofen 802, Yukang 4, Yukang 5, Qinfan 2, Xifen 2, Xifen 3, Ruby, Super Zaofeng, Zaokui, Qiangfeng, Taiwan Hong, Zhongshu 4 and so on. In variety selection, attention should be paid to early-maturing varieties in early spring or late cultivation in autumn, while mid-late maturing varieties should be selected in the current season.

Second, how to manage growing tomatoes?

1. Fertilization: during the growth period of tomatoes, appropriate fertilization should be applied according to the growth conditions, not partial application of nitrogen fertilizer, but should be combined with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer.

2. Watering: tomatoes like to be wet, and the amount of water is different in different growth periods, so we need to pay attention to the amount of water.

3. Pruning: during the growth of tomatoes, we should also pay attention to pruning, setting up, and binding vines, so that tomatoes can grow better.

Fertilization is generally applied to promote the growth of stems and leaves after planting slow seedlings. After the first ear fruit began to expand, the second topdressing was carried out to promote the fruit expansion, and the middle and late ripening varieties needed 3-4 times of topdressing after the first and second ear fruits were harvested.

There are two main ways of pruning, one is to leave only the trunk, and all the lateral branches are removed (it is appropriate to remove all the lateral branches when the lateral branches grow to 4-7 cm), which is called single-trunk pruning; the other is to leave the lateral branches under the first inflorescence except the trunk, and all the other lateral branches are removed, which is called double-trunk pruning. No matter what kind of pruning method is used, we should pay attention to binding the vine in time.
