Choose the sunny land with cool climate and high terrain, Ligusticum chuanxiong is suitable for sandy soil and should be weeded and reclaimed before planting, making a bed 1.5 meters wide.

3. Planting

Dig part of the underground rhizome with strong growth, immature and withered stems and leaves, plant in trenches on the border surface, the plant row spacing is 30 × 20cm, put the seed stem flat in the ditch, cover it with compost or dung soil, and then spread a layer of rice straw to keep warm and moisturizing.

IV. Field management

Ploughing and weeding is carried out every month, and pay attention to careful observation and appropriate seedling replenishment. Topdressing 2-3 times within two months after planting to ensure adequate nutrients. When the temperature is cold in winter, you can cut off the withered stems and leaves on the ground, loosen the soil and weed and cover it with a layer of fine soil to ensure that it can survive the winter safely.

The harvest time is generally in May of the second year after planting, which is the best harvest time. If it is dug too early, the rhizome is not mature and the yield is low; while if dug too late, the rhizome will rot through maturity, resulting in a decline in quality.

Ligusticum chuanxiong is widely distributed in Sichuan (Pengxian, now Pengzhou, where authentic production areas have been transferred), and is cultivated in Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Hubei, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Hebei and other provinces.
