The earliest mature longan in China is Hainan longan, which began to mature in March and did not end until July. Longan in Guangzhou matured and went on the market in mid-July, while longan in Guangxi matured and listed from late July to early August.

Second, common varieties of longan

1. Shikip longan: Shikip longan alias ten leaves, crispy meat, stone round, etc., is a variety of longan. There are three strains: yellow Shell Shek Kip, Green Shell Shek Kip and Gongfen Shek Kip. This variety is the main variety in Guangdong and Guangxi, originally from Pingzhou, Nanhai, Guangdong Province, and is one of the best varieties with the best fresh food quality with a long history of cultivation. In the Pearl River Delta region of Guangdong Province, this variety matures in the early and middle of August and is an early-maturing variety.

two。 Fujian longan: Fuyan longan is a variety of longan. The fruit of this variety is flat and round, the size of the fruit is uniform, the pericarp is brown and yellow, the tortoise shell crack is not obvious, the flesh is milky white, translucent, the flesh is delicate, juicy and thick, the taste is clear and sweet, and the kernel can be used as medicine. This variety is the most important variety in the main producing areas such as Jinjiang, Nanan and Quanzhou in Fujian Province. The fruit matures from late August to early September, and it is a mid-ripening variety.

3. Grass-covered longan: the fruit is spherical or slightly oblate, medium-sized, 2.25-2.45 cm in vertical diameter, 2.30-2.65 cm in horizontal diameter, and 6.77-8.0 g in weight. Pericarp reddish brown or yellow-grayish brown, with tortoise lines. The flesh is white to light yellow wax white, translucent, easy to enucleate, 0.33 cm thick, crisp and tender, medium juice, sweet taste, high quality and so on. The edible rate is 63.76%, and the soluble solid is 18.91-19.8%. Seeds dark brown, suborbicular, 1.49 cm in longitudinal diameter and 1.44 cm in transverse diameter, with smaller hilum. The fruit ripening period is from late August to late September.

4. Chuliang longan fruit is of high quality and good fresh flavor. It is the only variety that can compete with Thai longan in the fruit market of large and medium-sized coastal cities in Guangdong in recent years, and its quality is better than Thai longan. At the same time, Chuliang longan is an excellent variety of fresh food and processing, the processed longan meat is yellow and translucent, the meat is thick, the dried meat grains will not adhere to each other, dry and resistant to storage, and can produce first-class to super-grade longan meat.
