Peach is one of the common fruits in summer, which is resistant to barren, cold and stable yield, but its life is short, so grafting is needed to improve the quality of fruit trees. What tree can the peach tree be grafted with? Do you know when and how?

What trees can peach trees be grafted with?

Peach tree grafting is generally selected from the same genus of tree species for grafting, such as hairy peach, mountain peach, but also can graft apricot, plum, hairy cherry and other plants.

When will the peach trees be grafted?

Peach trees generally choose to be grafted in spring and summer, so the survival rate is higher. However, if the technology and management are proper, it can also be carried out in autumn and winter.

1. Spring grafting

The best time for grafting in spring is from the middle of February to the end of April.

two。 Summer grafting

From mid-May to early August, when the sap flow is exuberant, peach trees sprout and spread leaves, and the new buds are not yet full, which is a good time for bud grafting.

3. Autumn grafting

Autumn grafted peach trees are suitable for budding from late July to late September.

4. Winter grafting

Grafting in winter needs to do a good job of heat preservation and cold protection, and should be covered with plastic film at the right time, which should be carried out from the beginning of November to the end of January of the following year.

Do you know the method of grafting peach trees?

1. Grafting preparation

First prepare the necessary rootstocks and scions, preferably annual, robust, disease-free, resistant, excellent varieties of peach branches. When ready, continue to treat the section of the rootstock and scion and keep it hydrated. At the same time, the film and scissors used for grafting should be cleaned and disinfected.

two。 Grafting method

Peach trees can be grafted by bud grafting and branch grafting. Among them, the bud grafting method includes T-shaped bud grafting method and embedded grafting method, and the grafting method includes split grafting method and web grafting method.

Peach tree bud grafting can be done by square bud grafting, trim the rootstock before grafting, then gently put the buds into the cut of the rootstock, and finally tie up the tape quickly.

Branch grafting can be done with the usual splitting method, inserting the thicker side of the scion outward into the split of the rootstock, so that the cambium of the rootstock and the scion are aligned with each other, and then fasten it with plastic strips.

3. Post-grafting management

New buds will grow about 15 days after the grafting survives, and proper water and fertilizer and pest control will be needed when the grafted seedlings are completely successful.

It is not difficult for peach trees to be grafted, but the selection of tree species and time method must be correct, so that the survival rate will be higher.
