What is the meaning of insectivorous plants?

Insectivorous plants are plants that can attract and capture prey, produce digestive enzymes and absorb decomposed nutrients, mostly insects and arthropods. In nature, there are more than 630 species of this plant, such as pitcher plant, flytrap, bottle grass, thatch vegetable and so on.

1. Pitcher plant: it has a unique nutrient-absorbing organ-insect cage, which is cylindrical in shape, with a slightly inflated lower part and a lid on the cage mouth, which can prey on insects. The cover of the bottle body can secrete fragrance and attract insects; the mouth of the bottle is smooth, and the insects will be slipped into the bottle, drown by the liquid secreted from the bottom of the bottle, and decompose the nutrients and gradually digest and absorb them.

2. Flytrap: there is a trap at the top of the leaf that looks like a "shell". The edge of the leaf contains nectaries that secrete nectar to lure insects close. When the insect enters the leaf surface and touches the sensory hair belonging to the sensory organ twice, the two leaves will quickly close together and hold it, and the insect will be digested by the digestive juice secreted by the glands on the trap.

3. Bottle grass: the leaf is like a bottle, there is an insect sac in the bottle, the opening of the capsule wall is smooth, and there are nectaries that can secrete sweet nectar to lure insects to come and fall into the bag. The wall of the capsule is smooth and contains digestive juice, which can secrete digestive enzymes to decompose insects and then absorb proteolytic enzymes from glands composed of parenchyma cells in the inner wall.
