Purslane, also known as Portulaca oleracea, is an excellent indoor foliage plant because its thick leaves are neatly arranged like copper coins. So, how does the money wood reproduce?

I. seed propagation

Generally speaking, it is rare to use seeds in the process of propagation of Portulaca oleracea, mainly because Portulaca oleracea is a unisexual flower plant, which is usually difficult to bear fruit after flowering, so artificial pollination is needed in the process of cultivation to get seeds. In addition, the germination rate of seed propagation is very low, which will limit large-scale production to a great extent.

2. Tissue culture

That is, the propagation method of tissue culture was obtained by means of callus, adventitious buds and so on. The so-called callus pathway, that is, after in vitro culture, the explants of Portulaca oleracea differentiate into calli, then grow clusters of buds, and form a complete plant after rooting. It can be seen in practice that the callus effect of tree leaves is better than that of stems, and its effective induction rate can reach more than 88%. The results showed that the mature leaves of Portulaca oleracea near the main vein were easy to form callus.

3. Ramet propagation

In April, when the outdoor temperature was more than 18 ℃, the large Portulaca oleracea plant was removed from the pot, most of the persistent soil was shaken off, broke off from the weak combination of tuber sheep, and the wound was smeared with sulfur powder or plant ash, and planted in another pot. Be careful not to bury it too deep when planting, as long as the top of the tuber is buried 1.5-2 cm under the soil. In addition, according to the characteristics of latent buds on the tuber of Portulaca oleracea, a large single tuber can be cut into small pieces with 2-3 latent buds, and after the wound is drier, it is first buried in slightly moist fine sand, and then planted in a pot after the cut tuber grows into an independent plant.

IV. Cutting propagation

Cuttings can use a single leaflet, a leaf axis plus 2 leaves or a single leaf axis. In terms of rooting effect in the coming year, the cuttings with leaves on the leaf axis can take root faster, sprout higher in the north, and it is easier to open into larger tubers. After cutting a single leaf on the mixed substrate mixed with river sand and vermiculite, a rooted bulb can be formed at the base of the leaf after 10-14 days, and it can grow into a small plant after 2-3 months of cultivation.

Because the survival rate of seed propagation and tissue culture is not high, the propagation methods of Artemisia angustifolia are mostly used in ramet and cutting propagation.
