There are many ways to grow Dendrobium. Let's introduce what kind of bark Dendrobium uses. Dendrobium can be multiplied by means of ramet, cuttage, aseptic sowing and tissue culture. Among them, the propagation speed of ramet and cuttage is slow, but the method is simple and suitable for family use. Tissue culture has high propagation speed and high technical requirements, so it is suitable for industrial production.

Because the bark from the mountain is relatively dirty, there are insects and eggs, so they should be boiled in a pot for 20 minutes. They can kill insects and eggs, remove fat, fish them out, cool them, and make them of the right size. Wash the sediment in the pond, dry it, put it in a bucket, put fungicides, and soak in water for a week. Finally, it can be used when it is cold and dry.

The thicker the bark is, the better it is, because the new bark is slowly fermented, the microflora is also slowly formed, and Dendrobium is also adapted to the environment.

The new bark is more difficult to absorb water, so at the beginning, you should pay attention to watering it properly, whether it is thoroughly watered or not, and it is best to plant it in the open air, so that it rains and insolates, the bark will ferment and slowly absorb water. Many barks bought online are not fermented, and they are relatively small. I suggest you go to the mountain to pick up some, and plant Dendrobium or have a bigger bark.

Board planting method

Board planting, in fact, is just to find a snake board, bark, or cedar board, or even directly find a stump with bark is also good.

Snake board is Alsophila spinulosa (Hook.) Tryon, which is the only existing woody fern. It is extremely precious and can be called a national treasure. It is listed as an endangered plant under first-class protection by many countries.

As for bark or stump, cork such as oak is the best, either Chinese fir or pine, or longan. In short, the bark is thicker and rougher. Some friends like to tie it to a stone, the same way. Fresh snake boards, bark and stumps should be boiled as much as possible, or exposed to the sun for a few days, which can kill both insects and bacteria.

After cutting the snake board bark to the right size with a medium knife, add a hook. The hook generally uses the core of copper wire or aluminum wire, or stainless copper wire, which is not easy to rust.

Dendrobium descending the mountain are basically dry roots, which are not conducive to the growth of Dendrobium. Generally speaking, these roots will no longer grow, no matter on the plate or potted plant, except for leaving a small amount of roots (keeping new roots and living roots) and fixing them, the excess roots should be cut off before they are put on the plate or basin, then soak them in clean water for a while, wash the impurities such as rotten bark and mountain mud from the roots of the head with a toothbrush, and then put them on the board or basin. This helps to stimulate the germination of new roots.

Put Dendrobium on the snake board or bark, then cover it with a layer of water moss (soaked to the surface), and finally tie it up. If you are afraid that water conservation is not good, you can first spread a thin layer of water moss, then put Dendrobium, and then cover a layer of water moss. Water moss is more or less, generally there is not much requirement, if it is such small things as wind orchid and short-distance glossy orchid, water moss can be as little as possible, or even do not put water moss, and Dendrobium candidum, you should first put water moss and then spread Dendrobium, and then tie it up. There is no need to cover the face with water moss. Water moss to use better, that kind of white is good, the general downhill moss can also be used, but it is best to wash the impurities. Tie the general packing belt of Dendrobium, wool thread is fine, it is best to find some durable thick fishing line.

After putting on the board, hang it in a semi-overcast and ventilated place for one to two weeks, and then it can be managed normally.

Three substrates suitable for the growth of Dendrobium candidum

Why does the Dendrobium candidum planted by some growers look like they have never grown or are sick? One of the main reasons is that they planted Dendrobium candidum in the soil. In fact, it is very wrong to plant Dendrobium candidum in the soil. The roots of Dendrobium candidum need better ventilation environment in order to better absorb water and nutrients and help the stems, leaves and flowers of Dendrobium to grow and resist diseases and insect pests. However, the ventilation effect of the soil is very poor, so it is not suitable for planting Dendrobium candidum. So, where should Dendrobium candidum grow or what kind of thing is better? The answer is matrix. Wild Dendrobium candidum grows mostly in cracks in rocks or on the bark of trees, with little or no growth in the soil. So, in the artificial planting of Dendrobium candidum, which substrate is more suitable for the growth of Dendrobium candidum?

Moss

Moss is the lowest higher plant, which is flowerless and fruitless, reproduces by spores, likes dark and humid environment, and is one of the plants that monitor the degree of air pollution. The moss harvested and dried in the sun has a good ventilation effect and can absorb water very well, so it is a good matrix.

Using moss as the growth substrate of Dendrobium candidum can not only ensure good ventilation of the root, but also detect the watering time of Dendrobium candidum and replenish the water needed by Dendrobium candidum in time. Moreover, moss can protect the nutrients needed for the growth of Dendrobium candidum in order to avoid loss.

Sawdust

Sawdust refers to the sawdust, shavings and other powder left when the wood is processed. In modern times, it is mainly used as fuel or light bone filler, or the use of advanced technology to make wood-based panels and so on.

Similarly, sawdust can be used as the growth base of many plants, such as Lentinus edodes, fungi, fungus and so on. Sawdust, soft, can well protect the roots of plants from damage, at the same time, has good ventilation, can well meet the needs of plants for air, but also has a good moisturizing and fertilizer effect.

Therefore, sawdust is also a more suitable substrate for planting Dendrobium candidum.

Bark

Bark refers to the outermost protective structure of trees, and it is also an important part of the nutrients transported by trees. The outer bark of a felled tree is of little use, so the carpenter usually removes the bark. Stripped bark usually has two functions: fuel and matrix. The bark also has good ventilation, moisturizing and fertilizer-preserving effect, which is very suitable for the growth needs of Dendrobium candidum. Most of the planting beds of Dendrobium candidum use bark as substrate.

In addition to the above three kinds of substrates, small stones and rubble can also be used as planting substrates of Dendrobium, and they all have good ventilation. Wild Dendrobium candidum grows in the cracks in the rocks because there are a lot of moss, broken branches and fallen leaves, which can meet the needs of water and fertilizer of Dendrobium candidum. At present, in order to better meet the growth of Dendrobium candidum, many enterprises or growers usually put a variety of substrates together, and at the same time carry out special treatment of the substrate, and disinfect the substrate before planting Dendrobium candidum. Reduce bacteria and viruses that may exist in the substrate.

No matter what is used as the matrix, it must first be granular, with a particle size of about 0.5 cm; second, it uses bark, shavings, pine cones and Chinese fir branches as the matrix, which must be soaked in water for 7 days and used after disinfection; the third matrix had better use anticorrosive materials such as Qi wood bark, pine bark, pine cones, fine Chinese fir and fine shavings, and can also be matched with some broken tiles, charcoal and fern leaf ash charcoal.

According to the experience of Zhejiang people planting Dendrobium candidum in Xishuangbanna, pine bark and pine cone particles are the best materials, which have the following advantages: one is rot resistance, the second is water permeability, the third is good air permeability, and the fourth is good water retention. Rake the sterilized substrate in the cultivation bed with a thickness of about 3 cm. Put the larger particles under the substrate and the finer ones above. Please note that the matrix must not be mixed with all kinds of organic fertilizer.

There are several planting methods of Dendrobium. Growers should choose suitable planting methods according to their own conditions, and mastering scientific planting technology is the key.
