Rice has entered the sowing season, the phenomenon of spontaneous introduction by farmers is more common in recent years, but the comprehensive characters of introduced varieties are less good, and some even cause a serious reduction in yield. in fact, the seeds needed by farmers can be purchased from local agricultural departments and seed departments. If you really need introduction, you should pay attention to get out of the following misunderstandings.

one。 Blind introduction of large panicle varieties. Many farmers blindly introduce large panicles, super-large spikes and wolf-tail rice, thinking that large panicles can produce high yield, but the result is contrary to one's wishes. Some varieties do have large spikes, even super-large spikes, but the disadvantages are very obvious. For example, the seed setting rate is low, the effective panicle is seriously insufficient, it is easy to lodge, susceptible to disease, poor rice quality and so on, although the panicle type is large, the yield is not high. In addition to the number of grains per panicle (spikelets), the yield factors include seed setting rate, effective panicle number, grain weight and so on. Therefore, to determine the quality of the variety, not only depends on the size of the ear, but also depends on other traits. Only the varieties with high yield, good rice quality, strong resistance and moderate growth period have the value of popularization in production.

Second, it should be introduced without trial. Many introduction people believe that the introduction of improved varieties from other places to the local must perform well, and after introduction, they are planted blindly without trial, resulting in a reduction in yield. Some improved varieties do perform well locally, but not necessarily when planted in other places; the growth period of some varieties becomes longer after introduction, so it is necessary to pay attention to whether they can safely complete ears; and the growth period of some varieties is shortened after introduction, so the dike may lead to a reduction in yield. Rice is a short-day crop, in which the early indica type is highly temperature sensitive, and the late indica type is not only temperature sensitive but also photosensitive. The varieties introduced from south to north or low altitude are introduced to high altitude areas, the growth is prolonged, and the safe panicle of late rice should be considered, so the varieties with short growth period are generally introduced. Varieties from the north to the south or from the high altitude to the low altitude will shorten the growth period, so the varieties with longer growth period should be introduced. After introduction, it must be planted in a small area and successfully for 1-3 years, and it is determined that the comprehensive characters such as disease resistance and high yield are good in order to plant in a large area.

(3) introduction without quarantine. Some rice diseases, insect pests and weeds belong to quarantine objects, but they are limited to epidemic areas. However, some introducers have no quarantine consciousness and are introduced casually. Without quarantine, once some quarantine objects spread with introduction, the damage is endless and the loss is inestimable. No matter how much it is introduced, it must be quarantined by the quarantine organ of the local agricultural department. If there is a quarantine object, and there is no quarantine object, a quarantine certificate shall be issued at the time of introduction.

Fourth, introduce varieties that have not been approved. Some breeders propagate the introduced varieties at will and carry out business activities. When purchasing seeds, farmers often do not consider whether the varieties have been approved by the national or provincial or municipal levels. In the seed cases investigated and dealt with in recent years, farmers have suffered losses as a result of buying unapproved (or unqualified) varieties at will, and even varieties that have been examined (recognized) should pay attention to adapt to altitude, disease resistance, and so on. Rice farmers should take this as a warning and be cautious in their introduction.
