The wheat midge overwinters as mature larvae in a round cocoon in deep soil and can be dormant for many years. In spring, when the soil temperature of 10 cm rises to about 7 ℃, that is, the cocoon is broken and moves to the soil surface at the jointing stage. In the middle of April, the wheat enters the booting stage, and the larvae pupate in the 3 cm topsoil layer one after another. The pupal stage is usually 8-12 days. In late April, the adults first move on the surface after Eclosion, and then lay eggs on the wheat ear, which is from the heading stage to the flowering stage, and the egg stage is 3-7 days. The hatched larvae drill into the glume shell of the wheat ear, bite through the wheat grain epidermis and suck the wheat grain slurry that is being filled, resulting in blighted grains and empty shells. Hence the name trematodes. Because the insect is very small, the harm is very hidden, until the wheat harvest can not produce grain, we do not know its serious harm.

In view of the fact that the wheat midge only harms the spike grains at the wheat heading stage and the larvae, pupae and adults of the wheat midge concentrate on the surface or surface of the soil before heading, spraying soil at the booting stage and spraying the stems and leaves at the heading-flowering stage can be used to control the midge.

To configure the medicinal soil, you can use 5% phoxim granules 2 kg or 2.5% methyl isofenphos granules 1.5 kg plus fine sand 20 kg, or 50% phoxim EC 200 ml, 5 kg water, 5% chlorpyrifos granules 600 kg 900 g per mu, prepare wet sand 25 kg 30 kg, sprinkle it into the wheat field at noon when there is no dew, and then vibrate the wheat plant with bamboo pole or string, so that the medicinal soil falls completely to the surface. Combined with irrigation, the effect is better.

Controlling adults at heading stage can be sprayed with 2000 times of acetamiprid wettable powder, 1000 times of 80% dichlorvos EC or 1500 times of 10% imidacloprid wettable powder, as well as a variety of pyrethroids, such as 4.5% cypermethrin 1500 times, or organophosphorus combined with pyrethroid EC 1500 times. We should pay attention to observe the development progress of wheat in specific plots, control it for 2 or 3 times before wheat break to blossom, at the same time pay attention to adequate water supply, spray thoroughly, and apply medicine as much as possible after dusk or afternoon temperature drop.

It is suggested that in the areas where wheat midge overwintering has been identified, the control measures of spraying soil at heading stage should be taken, and it should be continued for several years and adhere to the rule of unified control. In the land without spraying soil, the Eclosion and spawning time of adults should be closely monitored, according to the overlapping time of wheat heading and flowering stage, spraying to control adults, or the idea of protecting spikes should be adopted to control adults as soon as they reach the spike stage. just like the control of wheat scab in some areas, the corresponding agents can also be mixed.
