How to plant and propagate tree peony

The easiest way to reproduce peony is to separate plants. It can be carried out between the Autumn Equinox and Cold Dew, if the ramet is carried out during the growing period, it will grow poorly and even cause death. Plants are also easy to die in cold winter and spring.

When ramet, dig up the plant (the whole plant) first. Because the root of the peony is deeper, it is necessary to dig deeper from the root. Remove the decaying roots, cut off the roots with a sharp knife (or hand-cut), take care not to damage the root buds, and each ramet retains an appropriate amount of roots and tillering buds at the neck. The root system of peony is hypertrophic and easy to break. It will dry in the shade for 2 days and then split again. If the trunk is dry alone or very little, and there are no plants to separate, you can cultivate the soil 10 cm high in spring and keep it moist, waiting for new branches and roots to grow, and then ramet in the next autumn, so that there will be no effect on the mother plant.

After ramet, it is best to smear and disinfect the wound with copper sulfate or potassium permanganate solution to infect the disease. Select a suitable cultivation site (slightly higher terrain, good drainage, shady, fertile place), after digging a good pit, spray some dichlorvos and other agents to prevent pests from damaging roots. When planting, the roots are straight and can not be distorted. Plant a good cover and step on it, and water it several times in a row to make the soil completely solid and in close contact with the root. It is cold in North China. To protect the winter in the first year, wrap the plant in three layers of old newspapers. The branches should be tied up with grass rope before wrapping, and the leaves should be cut off with a cut before bundling, so as to keep part of the petiole from being damaged. It will open again in the middle and late March of the following year.
