A New Method of Fertilizer Supply for Orchid Planting ―― "Infusion Method"

Last Updated: 2024/12/31, Orchid fertilization methods are usually two, one is soil fertilization method, that is, fertilizer or soilless culture nutrient solution directly applied to the soil or soilless culture substrate, orchid roots absorb, nutrients transported to various parts of the plant. The second is foliar fertilization, i.e. chemical fertilizer

There are usually two fertilization methods for orchids, one is soil fertilization, that is, the fertilizer or soilless culture nutrient solution is directly applied to the soil or soilless culture substrate, and after the orchid root is absorbed, the nutrients are transported to all parts of the plant. The other is foliar fertilization, that is, chemical fertilizer or nutrient solution is mixed into a certain concentration, sprayed on the leaf surface, absorbed and transmitted to all parts of the plant. However, all the above methods have some shortcomings, such as serious waste and loss of nutrients, complex operation, slow fertilizer efficiency, environmental pollution and so on. The following introduces a method of orchid fertilizer supply-- "infusion method". This method has the advantages of saving fertilizer, rapid fertilizer effect, cleanliness and hygiene, simple method and so on.

① operation method. Use the abandoned infusion bottle in the hospital, put the nutrient solution into the bottle, insert the infusion tube, and hang upside down (higher than the basin). The needle at the other end is inserted into the false bulb of the orchid (as long as a pot of orchid is a continuous cluster seedling, any one is inserted into the needle, the whole pot of orchid can get nutrient supply), and the nutrient solution is slowly infiltrated into the plant tissue from the infusion bottle through the infusion tube and needle. to achieve the purpose of fertilizer supply.

② nutrient solution requirements. The type of nutrient solution used for the supply of fertilizer in an "infusion method" is mainly determined according to the purpose of fertilization. In general, conventional fertilization can be used with a certain concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other trace element chemical fertilizers. According to the actual situation, all kinds of special nutrient solution for orchids sold in the market can also be used. Such as Guangdong Shaoguan Meihui brand orchid hydroponic nutrient solution and Jia Lanbao, promoting root growth, sprouting agents, etc., can also use amino acids, glucose solution, sucrose solution and so on.

The requirement for the concentration of nutrient solution is very low, generally 0.01% to 5%. The concentration of a large number of elements should be high and the concentration of trace elements should be low.

The PH value of nutrient solution directly affects the absorption and utilization of nutrients in plants. If you buy a special nutrient solution, you can dilute it as required. If the self-made nutrient solution is mainly supplied with cations, the solution should be adjusted to slightly alkaline; if anions are mainly supplied, the solution should be adjusted to weak acidity to improve the nutritional effect.

Period of use of ③. It is generally appropriate to carry out in the period of exuberant growth in order to promote growth. Sometimes it can be carried out in the dormant period to improve the cold resistance of orchid plants and make them survive the winter safely.
